2/25/2012 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Showing at MOC!
The Vikings had some strong performances on Saturday at the Meet of Champions in Toms River. For the girls, Cayla Del Piano medaled in the 1600 for the 2nd straight year! Her time of 5:02.57 earned her 4th place. Del Piano was joined by Aspen McMillan, Julia Lekht, and Alicia Osley on the 9th place 4x400 relay, which ran a season-best 4:03.27! In addition, Osley finished 12th in the 400 with a near season-best of 59.06.

2/18/2012 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Group IV State 1600 Champion!
The Vikings had a strong showing on Saturday at the Group IV State Meet in Toms River. 5 of the 16 athletes who competed automatically qualified for the Meet of Champions by earning medals! For the girls, the highlight was Cayla Del Piano becoming just the 3rd girl in school history to win an indoor State Group title! Her outstanding time of 4:58.07 in the 1600 not only earned her the victory, but also broke the indoor school and county records! Alicia Osley was the other individual medalist for the girls, as her time of 59.02 in the 400 earned her a 5th place medal! She also just missed the finals in the 55 dash with her PR of 7.57 that placed her 9th. Del Piano and Osley were joined by Aspen McMillan and Julia Lekht on the 4x400 which finished 5th in a season-best 4:04.55! In addition, Lindsay Carbone's jump of 9-6 in the pole vault just missed a wild card berth in the Meet of Champs.

2/11/2012 Central Jersey Group IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 Girls Win 4th Straight Sectional Title!
The Lady Vikings captured their 4th straight Central Jersey Group IV title on Saturday, as the team scored in all 10 events and totaled 70 points to double up their nearest competition! 9 athletes contributed to the team's winning total!
Leading the way was Cayla Del Piano, who completed an outstanding triple by winning the 800 (2:17.45), 1600 (5:10.66), and the 3200 (11:13.16 PR)! Her 800 time also broke the meet record, while her 3200 time was senior class school record!
Fellow senior Alicia Osley scored valuable points in 3 events: the 400 (3rd, 61.91), the 55 (4th, 7.60 PR), and as anchor of the 2nd place 4x400 team (4:09.65)!
Osley was joined on the relay by Aspen McMillan, Julia Lekht, and Rochelle McDonald. McMillan also placed 3rd in the 55 Hurdles (8.73 PR), while Lekht was 5th in the same race (9.03).
Other athletes who scored were Jada-Rae Poku, with a big PR of 4-10 to take 2nd in the high jump; Alyssa McFarlane, 4th in the shot put (32-9); Nateya Harris, 6th in the shot put (31-5); and Lindsay Carbone, 6th in the pole vault (9-0).

For the girls, Cayla Del Piano ran away from the field to win the 800 meters, and her time of 2:13.7 broke the indoor school and Middlesex County records! Many other athletes set new season bests at the competitive meet.

1/28/2012 GMC Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Lady Vikings Win 6th Straight GMC Title!
The Lady Vikings stormed to their 6th straight indoor GMC Championship victory on Saturday, as the team won 5 events and scored 82.5 points! Cayla Del Piano led the way for the girls with victories in the 1600 and 800! In the 1600 she ran a meet record of 5:17.48, and she nearly broke the meet record in the 800 with her time of 2:17.33! She also ran 2nd leg on the winning 4x400 relay, along with Julia Lekht, Aspen McMillan, and Rochelle McDonald, who combined to run 4:10.93. The team also received big wins from Nateya Harris in the shot put (31-9.5 PR), and Lindsay Carbone, who jumped 9-6 in the pole vault to break the meet record! Other medalists for the girls were as follows: McMillan, who was 2nd in the 55 Hurdles (8.79 PR) and 3rd in the 55 Dash (7.58 PR); Lindsay Del Piano, 2nd in the pole vault (8-6); Alicia Osley, 3rd in the 400 (60.88); Alyssa McFarlane, 3rd in the shot put (31-3); Lekht, 3rd in the 55 Hurdles (8.93 PR); Nicolette Mateescu, 3rd in the 3200 (11:53.58 PR); Zenzali Lael, 4th in the 3200 (12:05.14); Savannah Barton, 4th in the pole vault (8-0); and Marissa Cavett, tied for 6th in the high jump (4-6).

The Viking track & field team earned 2 sets of medals at the Group IV State Relays on Friday night, and just missed medaling in several other events with 7th place finishes. The girls team medaled in 2 events, highlighted by the sprint medley team. The team of Alicia Osley, Rochell McDonald, Julia Lekht, and Cayla Del Piano ran 4:14.34 to grab 2nd in an exciting race. The medals marked the 5th straight year a Viking foursome has medaled in that event!
The other girls' relay that won medals was the distance medley team of Nicolette Mateescu, Osley, Melanie Huen, and Del Piano that ran 12:40.89 to take 4th!

The Viking Track & Field teams had a great night at the Middlesex County Relays on Friday, as the boys and girls captured the first sweep of the championship titles in school history! The girls team won their 5th straight title, and scored 50 points while winning 4 of the 8 events! For the girls, the team won the following events: Niky Mateescu, Taiyana Madden, Nikki Sendner, and Cayla Del Piano in the Distance Medley with a time of 13:00.68; the Shuttle Hurdles team of Julia Lekht, Savannah Barton, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan that ran 35.01; the Sprint Medley team of Alicia Osley, Rochelle McDonald, Barton, and Del Piano that ran 4:20.23; and the shot put team of Alyssa McFarlane (31-11) and Nateya Harris (29-8)! The team also scored with a 3rd place in the high jump by the team of Marissa Cavett (4-8) and Kelly Rose Harkness (4-6), and in the 4x200 with the team of Osley, McMillan, R. McDonald, and Lekht that ran a 4th place time of 1:54.18. In addition, the tandem of Lindsay Carbone (8-6) and Lindsay Del Piano (8-0) won the non-scoring pole vault competition with a meet record of 16-6! The boys and girls also combined to win both novice 4x200 races, and the girls novice 4x800!

12/30/2011 Track Universe Invitational 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Perform Well In New York!
The Vikings traveled to the New York Armory for the first time this season and had many great performances at the Track Universe Invitational!
Cayla Del Piano and Alicia Osley both won events for the girls' team. Del Piano captured the 1600 in a rout with her time of 5:01.9, and Osley ran 60.1 to take the 400. She also finished 3rd in the 200 (27.0). Other top-3 marks for the girls were turned in by Alyssa McFarlane, 2nd in the shot put (31-9.5), and Julia Lekht, who tied for 3rd in the 55 Hurdles (9.3).

The Vikings performed well at the Holiday Relay Carnival in Jersey City on Tuesday. For the girls, the top varsity performances were turned in by the 4x800 team of Cayla Del Piano, Niky Mateescu, Emily Giarratano, and Dani Resnick that finished 2nd in 10:21.1; Alicia Osley, who finished 3rd in the 600 in 1:46.3; and the 4x200 team of Osley, Julia Lekht, Lindsay Carbone, and Taiyana Madden that was 4th in the 4x200 (1:56.3). The Vikings also earned many medals in the freshman and novice events.

12/17/2011 Winter Opener 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Open in Toms River!
South Brunswick opened their season at the Winter Opener in Toms River, and had some strong performances despite showing some rust. The boys and girls combined for 5 medals in the crowded and lengthy meet! For the girls, Cayla Del Piano finished 2nd in a competitive 1000 meter race with a time of 3:03.92. Her time broke the school and County records for that event! Alicia Osley also medaled, tying for 5th in the 300 (44.3).
