6/3/2010 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 Fantastic Showing at MOC!
The Lady Vikings closed their season in style with a record-setting night at the Meet of Champions! The team had one champion, medaled in a school record 6 events, broke 1 school individual record and 2 school relay records!
Leading the way was Mariah Browne's impressive come-from-behind victory in the long jump! Trailing the entire competition, she leaped 19-1.5 on her 6th and final jump to seal the victory! She becomes just the 4th girl in school history to win a MOC title, and the first since 2007. She also finished 6th in the triple jump at 37-11, and ran 2nd leg on the 4x100 team that finished 2nd in 48.38. That time lowered the school record set earlier this year. Browne was joined by Melissa Dardani, Alicia Osley, and Rachel Johnson.
Also medaling was Amber Brown, 4th in the discus at 121-1; Sophia Ginez, 6th in the 1600 at 5:02.68; and Jamie Thompson, 7th in the 100 Hurdles (14.71, after lowering her own school record to 14.36 in the prelims). For Ginez, the 6th place medal represents the 4th straight year she medaled in the 1600 at the MOC!
Finishing 12th but lowering their own school record in a ultra-competitive race was the 4x400 team of Janae Baker, Cayla Del Piano, Jamielyn Samper, and Alicia Osley that ran 3:55.21!

5/29/2010 Group IV Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Finish 3rd at Groups
The Lady Vikings equaled their best finish ever in Group IV over the weekend by finishing 3rd in the state for the 2nd straight year! The team had 8 athletes score points and just missed tying for 2nd place overall by 1 point. In total, 10 of the 12 athletes who competed will move on to the Meet of Champs!
The highlight of the weekend was Mariah Browne's 19-5.25 leap in the long jump which won her a 2nd straight state title! The mark is the 7th best all-time in New Jersey history and also broke the Middlesex County record! Browne also finished 6th in the triple jump with a mark of 37-0.
Other state individual medal winners for the team were Amber Brown, 2nd in the discus (122-9); Jamie Thompson, 3rd in the 100 Hurdles (14.44) in a time that lowered her own school record; and Rachel Johnson, 6th in the 100 (12.62, 12.52 prelims).
South Brunswick ended the meet in style, as the 4x400 relay team placed 3rd and became the first foursome to medal in that event in the school's Group IV history! The team of Janae Baker, Cayla Del Piano, Jamielyn Samper, and Alicia Osley ran 3:57.49 to finish less than a second off the first place time!
The Lady Vikings also qualified for the Meet of Champions as wildcards in multiple events. Sophia Ginez in the 1600 (7th, 5:01.97) and 800 (8th, 2:16.93), Amanda Smilgis in the pole vault (tied for 8th at 10-0), Thompson in the 400 Hurdles (9th, 64.68) and long jump (9th, 17-2.75), and Browne in the 100 (7th, 12.78, 12.47 prelims) all advanced.

The Lady Vikings had another outstanding meet Monday night at the competitive East Coast Relays, as the team finished first in 2 events, broke 2 school records, and finished top-4 in all 7 events in which they competed!
In the field, the team swept the horizontal jumping events! Mariah Browne jumped 37-2 in the triple and 17-2.25 in the long jump to lead the way, while Jamie Thompson (16-10 long jump) and Lauryn Strebeck (35-4.25 triple jump) completed the teams.
On the track, the team broke a school record in the very first event, the shuttle hurdles! The team of Thompson (14.6), Rachel Johnson (15.7), Jen O'Laughlin (16.4), and Strebeck (15.8) ran 62.53 to finish 2nd. The time lowered the record set 2 weeks ago by over 1 second!
The other school record was set by the sprint medley team in a highly competitive race. The team of Melissa Dardani (26.3 200), Janae Baker (25.2 200), Alicia Osley (57.9 400), and Sophia Ginez (2:13.9 800) ran 4:03.55 to finish 3rd and crush the one year old record by 7 seconds!
Rounding out the medalists was the 2nd place discus team of Amber Brown (119-10) and Chloe Hall (112-6); the 3rd place 4x100 team of Dardani, Browne, Osley, and Johnson that ran 48.81 for 3rd; and the 4th place javelin team of Trish Langone (108-8) and Kiya Strickland (91-1).
5/13/2010 South Brunswick 119 Piscataway 20 Vikings Finish Undefeated!
The Lady Vikings finished their dual meet season undefeated at 7-0 for the 4th straight year with a 119-20 victory over Piscataway on Thursday! The team won 14 of the 16 events and had many stellar performances!
The team was led by double event winner Mariah Browne, who captured the 100 (12.4) and the long jump (17-11.25). Sophia Ginez (400, 59.9), Jamielyn Samper (800, 2:27.8) and Cayla Del Piano (1600, 5:14) all won individual events and also ran on the winning 4x400 relay.
Another notable victory was recorded by Amber Brown, who threw 125-7 in the discus to break the school record!
Other event winners were Jamie Thompson in the 400 Hurdles (65.2), Alicia Osley in the 200 (25.9, ties sophomore class record), Lyndsey Sample in the 3200 (12:43), Lauryn Strebeck in the triple jump (34-9.75), Amanda Smilgis in the pole vault (10-0), Jen O'Laughlin in the high jump (4-10), and Trish Langone in the javelin (110-1). The 4x400 team ran in the order of Samper, Del Piano, Joy Spriggs, and Ginez, and finished in 4:10.6.

The Lady Vikings improved to 6-0 with a 107-33 victory over Old Bridge on Tuesday! The team won 13 of the 16 events and had many outstanding performances.
Leading the way with 2 victories each were Mariah Browne, who won the long jump (18-4.25), triple jump (36-11.5), and was also part of the winning 4x400 relay; Emily Skalko, who captured the high jump (5-0) and tied for first in the pole vault with Savannah Barton (7-6); Rachel Johnson, who took the 100 (12.3) and the 200 (26.7); and Jamielyn Samper, who won the 400 hurdles (67.4) and was part of the winning 4x400 relay.
Other winners were Shadae Riggins in the 400 (62.2), Melanie Huen in the 3200 (12:57), Jamie Thompson in the 100 Hurdles (15.2), Amber Brown in the discus (120-6), Trish Langone in the javelin (100-4), and the 4x400 team of Julia Bossert, Samper, Browne, and Vanessa Perdomo that ran 4:23.4.

5/8/2010 South Brunswick 149 GMC Championships 68 5th Straight GMC Title!
The Lady Vikings captured their 5th straight GMC title by scoring 149 points to dominate the meet! The team won 5 events, scored in 14 of 16 events, and had 19 athletes contribute to the scoring! Also on the day, 1 school record and 3 class records were broken!
Leading the way for the team were double event winners Sophia Ginez and Mariah Browne. Ginez completed the 1600 (5:22.07) and 3200 (11:40.69) double for the 4th straight year! She becomes the first GMC athlete to win both events all 4 years of her high school career! Browne won the long jump (17-11) for the 3rd straight year, and also took the triple jump (37-5.5) for the first time!
The other victory was the 4x400 team's exciting win. Jamielyn Samper, Joy Spriggs, Cayla Del Piano, and Alicia Osley combined to run 4:02.80 for the win!
Other great performances were turned in by Jamie Thompson, who finished 2nd in the long jump (17-1.25), 3rd in the 400 Hurdles (63.23), and a close 2nd in the 100 Hurdles (14.47) with a time that set a new school record!
Class records were set by junior Amber Brown with her 2nd place performance in the discus (121-0 PR); junior Rachel Johnson with her 3rd place time in the 100 (12.38 PR); and sophomore Alicia Osley with her 5th place time in the 400 (58.68 PR)!

The Lady Vikings took advantage of the great weather Saturday night to record many outstanding performances at the Rowan Open! The team won 3 events, set 3 school records and 1 county record, and had many other personal bests!
Leading the way was the 4x800 team of Cayla Del Piano (2:21.5), Jamielyn Samper (2:26.7), Joy Spriggs (2:22.0), and Sophia Ginez (2:13.7 PR) that won in a come-from-behind time of 9:23.97! The time broke the team's own school and county record set at this meet last year by over 7 seconds, and is the 5th best time in NJ this year!
The 4x100 team of Melissa Dardani, Mariah Browne, Alicia Osley, and Rachel Johnson broke their own school record with their winning time of 48.46! Their time is also the 3rd best in NJ so far this season!
The final school record was the 2nd place performance of the shuttle hurdle team. Jamie Thompson, Jen O'Laughlin, Jamielyn Samper, and Rachel Johnson ran 63.61 to break the 7-year old school record by .07! Their time is also 5th best in NJ this year!
Other notable relay achievements included the 1st place 3x400 Hurdle team of Jamie Thompson (65.90), Laura Calderone (69.92), and Kyra Madden (71.00 PR) that ran 3:26.82; the 2nd place 4x400 team of Janae Baker (60.8), Sophia Ginez (61.1), Cayla Del Piano (60.4), and Alicia Osley (59.6) that ran a season-best 4:02.08; and the 3rd place 800 SMR of Melissa Dardani, Mariah Browne, Osley (25.5), and Baker (58.9) that ran 1:49.30, the 2nd best time in school history.
Individually, Mariah Browne jumped an outdoor PR of 37-7.25 to take 2nd in the triple jump; Amanda Smilgis took 4th in the pole vault with a PR of 9-6; and Chloe Hall threw a PR of 111-1 to take 5th in the discus.

The Lady Vikings stormed to their 5th straight GMC Relays title, scoring 125 points to win the meet by 64! The team won 9 of the 16 events and set 2 meet records in the process!
The team started day 1 with a victory and meet record in the 3x400 Hurdles! The team of Jamie Thompson (64.5), Jamielyn Samper (68.2), and Janae Baker (69.8) ran 3:22.5, a time that also lowered the school record set earlier this year!
On day 2, a meet record was set by the long jump team of Mariah Browne (17-10), Thompson (17-7.75), and Lauryn Strebeck (16-1), who combined for an impressive distance of 51-6.75, a mark that broke the old record (also set by a Viking trio) by almost 2 feet!

4/22/2010 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Perform Well!
The Lady Vikings performed well at the Penn Relays Thursday against very competitive fields! The team was represented by 3 relays and 2 individuals.
In the relays, the 4x100 team of Melissa Dardani, Mariah Browne, Alicia Osley, and Rachel Johnson ran a strong time of 49.08 to win their heat for the 2nd straight year. It was the 5th fastest NJ time, and just missed qualifying for the Tri-State final!
The 4x400 team of Jamie Thompson, Dardani, Jamielyn Samper, and Osley finished 3rd in their heat with a season-best time of 4:04.89!
The final relay, run under the lights, was the Distance Medley. The team of Cayla Del Piano (3:45.8 1200), Janae Baker (59.2 400 PR), Joy Spriggs (2:21.5 800 PR), and Sophia Ginez (5:04.8 1600) ran 12:11.48 and just missed the school record set last year! The team finished 12th in the ultra-competitive race.
Individually, Browne placed 11th in the long jump at 17-3.25, and Thompson finished 15th in the 400 Hurdles with a season best 63.33.

4/17/2010 Raider Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Showing at Raider Relays!
Despite the cool weather and wind, South Brunswick had another solid meet at Saturday's Raider Relays in Hillsborough. The team won 5 events, set 2 meet records and also 1 school record!
Starting in the field, the team broke a meet record in the discus with Amber Brown (113-3) and Chloe Hall (106-2) adding nearly 8 feet to the meet record! In addition, the long jump duo of Jamie Thompson and Mariah Browne both jumped 16-10.25 to add over a foot to the meet record they set last year!
Other winners were Browne (36-6.75) and Lauryn Strebeck (35-8.75) in the triple jump; the 4x100 team of Melissa Dardani, Browne, Alicia Osley, and Rachel Johnson that ran 50.05; and the 1600 Sprint Medley team of Osley, Johnson, Dardani, and Sophia Ginez that ran 4:16.03.
Finishing in 2nd but breaking the year-old school record was the 3x400 Hurdle team of Jamie Thompson (63.51), Jamielyn Samper (67.52), and Jen O'Laughlin (73.23) that ran 3:24.26!
Two other teams finished in 2nd: the shuttle hurdle team of Thompson, Johnson, O'Laughlin, and Strebeck that ran 65.05, and the 4x400 team of Shadae Riggins, Joy Spriggs, Thompson, and Samper that ran 4:10.81.

The Lady Vikings had another strong meet, as the team won 12 events and defeated East Brunswick, 100-40!
The team was led by Mariah Browne, who captured 3 events in impressive fashion - the 200 (25.7), the long jump (17-8), and the triple jump (37-3.5)!
In addition, Jamie Thompson won the 100 Hurdles (15.3) and the 400 Hurdles (67.4), and also ran on the winning 4x400.
Other event winners were Rachel Johnson in the 100 (12.3), Sophia Ginez in the 800 (2:24.2), Lyndsey Sample in the 3200 (12:18), Amanda Smilgis in the pole vault (9-0), Jen O'Laughlin in the high jump (4-10), Trish Langone in the javelin (115-10), and the 4x400 team of Shadae Riggins, Melissa Dardani, Thompson, and Kyra Madden that ran 4:12.1.

The Lady Vikings moved to 4-0 on the season by defeating Woodbridge on Tuesday, 94-37! The team won 11 of the 15 events contested and had many strong performances. The team was led by Jamie Thompson's 3 victories - the long jump (17-4.25), the 100 Hurdles (16.5), and the 400 Hurdles (66.7).
Jen O'Laughlin was a double-winner, capturing the triple jump (34-1.5) and the high jump (4-8). Also winning events was Mariah Browne in the 100 (12.4), Shadae Riggins in the 400 (62.4), Jamielyn Samper in the 800 (2:37.8), Amber Brown in the discus (107-2), Trish Langone in the javelin (117-2), and the 4x400 team of Riggins, Kylie Plummer, Laura Calderone, and Danielle Resnick that ran 4:29.8.

South Brunswick improved to 3-0 on the season with a 104-36 victory over North Brunswick! The team won 13 of the 16 events and had many great performances. Leading the way with 2 victories on the track were Sophia Ginez, who won the 800 in a sizzling near-school record 2:16.6, and also split 60.2 on the winning 4x400, and Rachel Johnson, who the 100 (12.6) and the 100 Hurdles (16.8). Mariah Browne also won 2 events in the field, the long jump (16-11) and the triple jump (36-2.5). The Lady Vikings had an outstanding day at the GMCTCA Relays on Saturday, as the team won 8 of the 16 varsity events, set 7 meet records, and 2 school records! The team also won many novice events as well. In varsity competition, the team won the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800, Shuttle Hurdles, Pole Vault, Triple Jump, and Long Jump! The 4x100 team of Melissa Dardani, Mariah Browne, Alicia Osley, and Rachel Johnson ran 48.7 to break the meet and school record, while the same group minus Browne and plus Janae Baker ran 1:43.0 to break the meet and school record in the 4x200! Also breaking meet records with their relay victories were the 4x400 team of Baker, Jamie Thompson, Shadae Riggins, and Osley that ran 4:05.0; the 4x800 team of Joy Spriggs, Sophia Ginez, Jamielyn Samper, and Cayla Del Piano that ran 9:38.6; the shuttle hurdle team of Thompson, Johnson, Jen O'Laughlin, and Lauryn Strebeck that ran 66.3; the triple jump team of Browne (35-5) and Strebeck (34-5); and the long jump duo of Browne (17-4) and Thompson (18-1).
Also placing first was the pole vault relay of Amanda Smilgis (9-0) and Savannah Barton (7-0).
4/1/2010 South Brunswick 116 Edison 24 Vikings Start With Win!
The Vikings started their season in style on Thursday, as they opened with a 116-24 victory over Edison! The team won 14 of the 16 events and also had 9 events in which the top-3 spots were all claimed by Viking athletes!
In the field, the team won all 7 events: Trish Langone in the javelin (109-10); Ginelle Walker in the shot put (32-10); Amber Brown in the discus (103-8); Jamie Thompson in the long jump (17-4); Mariah Browne in the triple jump (36-4); Jabria Jennerette in the high jump (4-10); and Amanda Smilgis in the pole vault (9-0).
