For the girls, the 4x200 team of Aspen McMillan, Rochelle McDonald, Zyjira Thomas, and Desirae Osley finished 9th and ran a season-best time of 1:45.83! They just missed the finals by one place, and their time is one of the top times in indoor school history. Also performing well were Osley in the 400, who lowered her season best to a time of 59.50, and Julia Lekht in the long jump, who just missed her PR with a mark of 17-3! In addition, Thomas PRed in the 55 Hurdles at 8.85.

The highlight of South Brunswick's showing at the Meet of Champions was Aspen McMillan taking 6th in the 55 Hurdles in 8.44! In addition, Desirae Osley placed 14th in the 400, and lowered her season best to 59.73!

2/16/2013 Group IV States 0 South Brunswick 0 4 Advance to MOC

At the Group IV State Championships on Saturday, 4 girls advanced to the Meet of Champions, the final round of NJSIAA competition. Leading the way was double-medalist Aspen McMillan, who took 3rd in the 55 (7.41) and 6th in the 55 Hurdles (8.48, 8.40 trials)! She becomes just the 3rd girl in school history to medal in 2 individual events in the same Group IV meet! Also qualifying as wildcards for the MOC were Desirae Osley, who ran a season-best 59.86 to place 10th in the 400, and the 4x400 team of McMillan, Rochelle McDonald, Taiyana Madden, and Osley that placed 11th in a season-best 4:07.46!

The top marks for the boys were a pair of 11th place finishes: Phil DeFroscia in the 3200 (10:00.71), and Emmanuel Agyen in the 55 (6.75).

2/12/2013 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 16 Advance to States!

The Vikings had many top-6 performances at the Central Jersey Group IV Sectionals on Tuesday, and a total of 16 athlets qualified for the Group IV State Championships! The girls team scored 39.5 points and came in 2nd, while the boys scored 22 and finished 7th. The girls were led by Aspen McMillan, who won a close race in the 55 (7.39), finished 2nd in the 55 Hurdles (8.44), and led off the 3rd place 4x400 team that ran a season-best 4:08.19! In addition, Desirae Osley medaled in 2 events, taking 2nd in the 400 (61.03), and anchoring the 4x400. Other athletes advancing to States are Nateya Harris, 4th in the shot put (32-5.25); Zyjira Thomas, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (8.91); Denise Porter, 6th in the shot put (30-7.5); Jada-Rae Poku, tied for 6th in the high jump (4-8); and Rochelle McDonald and Taiyana Madden, who ran the middle legs in the relay.

South Brunswick had a strong showing at the Poreda Invite in Lawrenceville, as the team earned multiple medals for top-3 performances.

For the girls, Aspen McMillan, Rochelle McDonald, Jenna Thompson, and Desirae Osley combined to finsh 3rd in the 4x200 with a season-best time of 1:47.52! In addition, McMillan made the finals of the 55 Hurdles, while McDonald and Osley both made the 55 final and set personal bests!

1/26/2013 GMC Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Boys & Girls Both Finish 3rd

The girls' team placed 3rd at the GMC Championships on Saturday in Toms River. The girls scored 46 points and managed to score in every event, highlighted by Aspen McMillan's two victories! She won the 55 in 7.36 to tie the school record, and also captured the 55 Hurdles in 8.39! McMillan also ran on the 3rd place 4x400 team (4:08.73), and was joined by Rochelle McDonald, Julia Lekht, and Desirae Osley. Osley also finished 4th in the 400 (60.78). Elisa Meranchik was the other double medalist, ans she took 4th in the 3200 (12:09.29), and 5th in the 1600 (5:31.95).

Other medalists were Nateya Harris, 4th in the shot put (31-9.75); Jada-Rae Poku, tied for 4th in the high jump (4-10); Nikki Cavett, 4th in the pole vault (6-0); Zyjira Thomas, 5th in the 55 Hurdles (8.96); and Taiyana Madden, 6th in the 800 (2:28.52).

1/4/2013 Middlesex County Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Sweep GMC Relays!

The boys' and girls' teams swept the GMC Relays for the 2nd straight year! The boys used a dominant overall performance to score 72 points en route to their 2nd straight relays title! The girls team scored 56 points to win a close team battle, and their 6th staight relays title! The two teams combined to place top-4 in all 16 scoring varsity events. The girls had two event winners, the shuttle hurdles and 4x400. The hurdle team ran 33.29 and was composed of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan, while the 4x400 team ran 4:09.67 and included McMillan, Rochelle McDonald, Lekht, and Desirae Osley.

The majority of the Viking boys and girls teams opened their season with an outdoor scrimmage at home against East Brunswick. Many strong performances were turned in despite cold and wet conditions!

The Viking sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers began their season in Jersey City, and had several medal-winning performances! For the girls, 4 varsity relays earned medals. The top finish was the shuttle hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Khadija McDonald, and Aspen McMillan finished a close 2nd with their time of 33.7! Other medalists were the 3rd place 4x200 team of McMillan, Lekht, Thomas, and Rochelle McDonald that ran 1:53.4; the 3rd place high jump duo of Jada-Rae Poku and Marissa Cavett that combined to jump 9-4; and the 3rd place 4x400 team of McMillan, Desirae Osley, Jenna Thompson, and Rochelle McDonald that ran 4:17.9.
