3/11/2007 Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings End Season in Style!
South Brunswick ended their indoor season in style on Sunday at both indoor national meets as two athletes earned All-America honors!
In New York, Stephanie McIntyre cemented her status as one of the nation's top jumpers with her 4th place triple jump of 39-7.75! The mark was the 5th time she has jumped over 39 feet this season, and is tied for the second best performance in her career. At the Nike Nationals in Maryland, Sophia Ginez also earned All-American distinction by finishing 6th in the freshman mile with a time of 5:12.67! Her performance was the 4th time this year she ran faster than the previous school record!

South Brunswick had an outstanding day on Saturday at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Landover, Maryland, as 5 athletes earned All-American status with their top-6 finishes.
For the boys, the shuttle hurdle team of Max Checo (7.8), Josh Checo (7.9), TJ Taikina (8.2), and Matt Kirbos (7.5) ran 31.65 to finish 3rd! The time broke the school record set by the same four earlier this year, and was also run over 5 hurdles instead of the usual 4 used in shuttle relay races.
On the girls side, Stephanie McIntyre earned All-American recognition with her 4th place leap of 39-2.5 in the triple jump! She moved from 8th to 4th on her 6th and final jump.
Also performing well was Indira Morton, who finished 7th in the pentathlon with 2,851 points, a mark that was just 15 points shy of 6th place.
3/9/2007 Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 Shuttle Hurdles Team Runs Well!
The Vikings started off well on the first day of the national meets. At the National Scholastic Indoor Championships in New York, the girls shuttle hurdle team of Indira Morton (8.7), Danielle Hudak (9.1), Stephanie Rodriguez (9.0), and Falen Watson (9.0) ran a strong time of 36.01 to take 9th place out of the competitive 20 team field. Morton also jumped 16-3 in the long jump.
2/27/2007 Eastern States 0 South Brunswick 0 An Indoor State Record & 3 other Medalists!
South Brunswick had a great meet at the prestigious Eastern States Invitational, as four athletes earned medals and several others achieved new personal bests! The standout performance was Stephanie McIntyre's indoor state record triple jump of 40-11! The jump broke the old state record by 1.25 inches, and won the meet by 2.5 inches! It was also over a foot further than her personal best prior to the meet!
Also performing very well for the girls were Indira Morton, who finished 3rd in the long jump with a PR-tying leap of 17-7.5, and Sophia Ginez, who ran 5:15.57 to take 5th in the mile!
For the boys, Billy Ricketts tied his school record height of 6-6 in the high jump, a mark that earned him 2nd place!
Other strong performances for the girls were turned in by Danielle Hudak, who tied her PR of 33-9 in the triple jump; Morton, who ran a time of 8.77 in the 55 hurdles; and the 4X200 team of Melissa Dardani (26.3), Falen Watson (27.8), Lauryn Strebeck (27.8), and Rebecca Russo (27.4) that ran 1:49.53, with all 4 runners setting or tying personal bests!

2/25/2007 Meet of Champions - Boys 0 South Brunswick 0 Boys Fare Well at MOC!
The Viking boys had a good day at the Meet of Champions on Sunday in Toms River. Steve Sample lowered his own 3200 indoor school record to 9:39.59, a time which placed him 14th in a very competitive field! Also, John Viotto finished 8th in the shot put with a new PR of 53-8.25! The 3rd Viking competitor was Billy Ricketts, who although not quite at his best, still managed to finish 8th in the high jump at 6-2.
2/24/2007 Meet of Champions - Girls 0 South Brunswick 0 Solid Showing at MOC!
The girls team had a solid showing at the Meet of Champions on Saturday, with the highlight being a new school record in the 1600! Sophia Ginez lowered her own school record in the 1600, set just last week, with her time of 5:10.52! Her time was good enough for 14th place, an improvement of 5 spots on her pre-meet seeding.
Other Vikings who competed were Indira Morton, who finished 16th in the 55 hurdles with her time of 9.14, and the 4X400 team of Stephanie McIntyre (60.2 PR), Stephanie Rodriguez (63.1), Jamie Thompson (63.1), and Rebecca Russo (62.0) that ran 4:08.57 to finish 13th.
2/18/2007 Group IV State Meet - Boys 0 South Brunswick 0 A State Champ & 2 other MOC Qualifiers!
The Viking boys had an impressive state meet on Sunday, as 3 athletes qualified for the Meet of Champions!
The highlight of the meet was John Viotto's throw of 53-4.75 that won him a Group IV State Championship in the shot put! The throw was also a new PR for Viotto! Also earning a medal and a spot in the Meet of Champs with his 5th place finish was Billy Ricketts, who leaped 6-4 in the high jump!
The final MOC qualifier for the Viking boys was Steve Sample, who ran a new indoor school record of 9:43.55 in the 3200! The time placed Sample 8th, and will earn him a wildcard berth into next Sunday's meet. Other strong performances came from Max Checo, who ran 8.14 in the 55 Hurdles to place 12th, and Matt Kirbos, who placed 15th in the same event at 8.18.

2/17/2007 Group IV State Meet - Girls 0 South Brunswick 0 Strong Showing at State Meet!
The Viking girls had a great day at the Group IV State Meet on Saturday, as 6 athletes qualified for the Meet of Champions, and one school record was broken!
The highlight of the day was the school record performance by Sophia Ginez in the 1600, as she ran 5:11.71 to shatter the old record! The former record of 5:14.3 was set 24 years ago by Sheila O'Brien in an outdoor race. Her 8th place finish will also earn her a wildcard entry into the Meet of Champs!
Also finishing 8th and earning a wilcard spot was Indira Morton, who ran 8.81 in the 55 Hurdles!
The final wildcard bid went to the 4X400 team, which also finished in 8th place, with a season best of 4:06.64! The team ran in the order of Stephanie McIntyre (60.8), Stephanie Rodriguez (61.3), Jamie Thompson (62.4), and Rebecca Russo (61.9), with all 4 runners setting new season bests!
Other notable performances were turned in by Falen Watson, who ran a big PR in the 400 with her time of 63.35; Jenni Smilgis, who PRed in the 1600 at 5:31.38; and Krista Belick, who tied her PR of 4-10 in the high jump.

2/9/2007 Ed Grant Last Chance Invitational 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Perform Well at Last Chance Meet!
The Vikings endured a long meet at the Ed Grant Last Chance Invitational in Jersey City, but made the trip worth it as many athletes came home with medals and personal records, plus a new school record and a class record!
For the girls, the distance runners led the way. Freshmen Sophia Ginez and Jenni Smilgis went 1-4 in the 1600, with Ginez running a new freshman class record of 5:26.6! Smilgis's time of 5:33.3 was also a new PR!
The 4X800 team broke the indoor school record for the 2nd time this week, with a time of 9:54.3 that placed them second. The team ran in the order of Stephanie Rodriguez (2:29.0), Smilgis (2:30.3), Megan Behrend (2:31.5), and Ginez (2:23.5 PR).
Also placing in a varsity event was Rebecca Russo, who tied for 4th in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.
Placing in the freshman/sophomore division were Emily Skalko, who jumped a PR of 4-8 to finish 1st in the high jump; Sharon Liu, who ran a PR of 9.4 to finish 3rd in the 55 Hurdles; Stephanie Greco, who was third in the shot put at 27-11; and the 4X400 team of Liu (67.2), Zaniah Maynor (68.3), Jasleen Singh (71.0), and Leanna Previte (69.4) that ran 4:35.9 for 3rd place, with all 4 runners setting new PRs.
On the boys' side, the small contingent of Vikings who competed did very well. Steve Sample ran 9:59.3 to finish 2nd in the 3200, with Dave Christofalo not far back in 5th with a time of 10:14.9.
Rishi Mathur took 2nd in the 1600 with a time of 4:46.2, and although he did not place, Jon Bellizio ran 4:51.5 to set a new PR.
Also, the 4X800 team of Anthony DeNuzzo (2:11.3), Elias Chamoun (2:09.0), Brian Haydon (2:12.3), and Cole Crosby (2:07.0) ran 8:39.6 to take 6th.
Finally, the 4X800 team of Jimmy Maloney (2:10.3 PR), William Pan (2:12.4 PR), Dan Medell (2:18.6), and Kevin O'Laughlin (2:15.1) ran 8:56.2 to finish 1st in the novice division.

2/5/2007 Varsity Classic 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Continue Hot Streak!
South Brunswick continued their great season Monday night at the Armory, coming home with 4 medalists and 2 school records!
For the girls, the jump tandem of Indira Morton and Stephanie McIntyre led the way. Morton jumped a near-PR 17-7 to win the long jump, with McIntyre in 3rd at 17-0! McIntyre also came back to win the triple jump with an impressive mark of 39-0!
Also for the girls, the 4X800 team of Jenny Smilgis (2:30.4), Stephanie Rodriguez (2:29.2), Megan Behrend (2:29.8), and Sophia Ginez (2:26.6) ran a new indoor school record of 9:56.0 to break the old mark by over 4 seconds!
On the boys side, the top peformance went to Billy Ricketts, who finished 2nd and tied the indoor school record of 6-6 in the high jump! The other medal winner for the boys was John Viotto, who threw an indoor-PR of 53-0 to finish 4th in the shot put!
Other notable performances were turned in by Yesenia Boynton, who ran 59.8 in the 400; Melissa Dardani, who ran a PR of 26.8 in the 200; Lauryn Strebeck who ran a major PR of 64.2 on the 4X400; Kyle Morse, who ran a PR 55.0 on his 400 leg of the DMR; and Jon Bellizio, who ran a solid 1200 leg of 3:23 leading off the DMR.

The Viking girls team had a fantastic meet on Friday night, winning the GMC title with a total of 56.5 points! Their closest rival, JP Stevens, finished with 39 points. The Vikings last won this meet in 2001.

The Viking girls had a spectacular meet on Saturday to win the Middlesex County Relays in dominating fashion! The team scored 60 points to outdistance their closest rival by 20 points! All 8 varsity relays placed in the top-3, as did both novice relays.
The boys team also had a good day, nearly knocking off Old Bridge for the title before falling 57-56.

12/16/2006 Bishop Loughlin Games 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Start Well at Loughlin Games!
The Vikings had a great start to the winter season at the Bishop Loughlin Games in New York, taking home 4 medals at the oldest and largest indoor track meet in the country.
Leading the way for the girls was Stephanie McIntyre, who finished 2nd in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5. The mark shattered the Middlesex County record, and is the 3rd best indoor mark in NJ state history!
For the boys, Billy Ricketts tied his PR with a jump of 6-4 to take 4th in the high jump. Also taking 4th was John Viotto with an indoor PR of 51-7.5 in the shot put.
Khalid Weston finished 5th in the long jump with a PR leap of 21-5.25, which broke the indoor school record!
