6/17/2016 New Balance Outdoor Nationals 0 South Brunswick 0 Awesome Showing at Nationals!

The Vikings had one athlete earn All-American status, one relay break a school and all-time Middlesex County Record, and a total of 4 performances earn top-10 marks in school history to end the 2016 season in style at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, NC! Leading the way with a 6th place finish to earn All-American honors in the high jump was Courteney Campbell! Her height of 5'8 tied her own school record set earlier this season! She becomes just the 2nd girl in school history to earn All-American recognition during the spring season! The Championship 800 Sprint Medley team of Latisha Witherspoon, Sabrina Ray, Essence Baker, and Desirae Osley broke the 10 year old school and Middlesex County records with their time of 1:47.09! Their time placed them 11th overall in a top-flight field. In the Emerging Elite Javelin, Julianna Franco came up with a big personal best of 121'10 to earn 2nd place! Her mark is now ranked 7th all-time in school history! Also of note, the Emerging Elite 800 Sprint Medley team of Imani Man, Annalyse Varlow, Olivia Hutchison, and Chloe Hypolite ran 1:55.48, which is the 8th fastest in school history!

6/8/2016 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 Campbell Wins MOC High Jump Title!

Courteney Campbell made history on Wednesday night, becoming just the 5th girl in school history to win a Meet of Champions title! Campbell was the only competitor in the high jump competition to clear 5'6, which she did on her first attempt! Her victory gives her a sweep of the indoor and outdoor MOC titles.

Daniella Izzo was the team's other medal winner, as she tied her PR of 11'0 in the Pole Vault to claim 7th place! Desirae Osley also had a strong showing, as she just missed a medal in the 400 with her 9th place finish in 57.25, and she also placed 11th in the 200 in 25.64!

6/4/2016 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Two Win Group IV State Titles!

South Brunswick had two individual state champions to highlight a great showing at the Group IV State Championships in Egg Harbor over the weekend! The team scored 35 points to finish in 4th place, a mere 5 points behind the 1st place team! The team had a 5 athletes earn medals, and should have a total of 9 athletes advancing to the Meet of Champions once wildcards are released! Highlighting Friday's performances was Courteney Campbell's victory in the High Jump! She tied her personal best and school record of 5'8 with a first attempt clearance, and was the only jumper in the competition to clear that height! On Saturday, Daniella Izzo tied her personal best as well in claiming the Pole Vault state title! She cleared 11'0 on her first attempt to clinch the victory on fewer misses! Desirae Osley also had a fantastic meet, earning two 3rd place finishes! In the 200 she ran a PR and near-school record of 25.15, while in the 400 she ran a great time of 56.90! The team's other medal winners came in the throws. Olivia Scattergood threw a PR of 119'3 in the discus for 5th place, while Miranda Irizarry threw 122'1 in the Javelin to grab 6th place! In addition, Essence Baker ran 2:17.66 to finish 9th in the 800, a personal best by over two seconds, and a time that broke the sophomore class school record!

5/28/2016 South Brunswick 90 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 74 Central Jersey Group IV Sectional Champs!

The Vikings came from behind on Saturday to win the Central Jersey Group IV Sectional title for the 2nd straight year! After ending Friday in 5th place with 26 points, the team scored 64 on Saturday to end with 90, 16 more than runner-up Franklin! The team had four individual winners, broke one school record, and had 12 athletes qualify to compete next weekend at the Group IV State Championships!Leading the way with event victories were Desirae Osley, Miranda Irizarry, Olivia Scattergood, and Daniella Izzo. Osley won the 200 in a near-PR of 25.37, and has now won a Sectional title in 3 consecutive years! Irizarry won the Javelin with a throw of 120-1, Scattergood came from behind to win the Discus with a throw of 115'11 that tied her PR, and Izzo also tied her PR in winning the Pole Vault at 11'0!

In addition to winning the 200, Osley also placed 2nd in the 400 (57.55), making this the 4th straight year she earned Sectional medals in both events! In addition, she ran the anchor leg on the 2nd place 4x100 and 3rd 4x400 teams, which marks the 2nd straight year and 3rd time in her career that she qualified in all four events for the Group meet!

In addition to her win in the Javelin, Irizarry also came up with a big season best in the shot put of 37'6 to grab 3rd place!

In Friday's competition, Courteney Campbell broke her own school record in the high jump with a leap of 5'8, a height which was amazingly also achieved by two other girls! Campbell ended up 3rd on misses, but is now tied with the other two athletes for the top jump in the state!

Other medalists individually were Julianna Franco, 2nd in the javelin (109'4 PR); Maggie Kaplan, 4th in the Pole Vault (10'0 =PR); Essence Baker, 5th in the 800 (2:19.78 PR); Paige Buchanan, 5th in the Discus (101'9 PR); the 2nd place 4x100 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, Baker, and Osley that ran 49.18; and the 3rd place 4x400 team of Baker, Brianna Araque, Jones, and Osley that ran 3:58.40!

The Viking freshmen had their turn to shine on Wednesday night in Old Bridge, and the team totaled 97 points to capture the title! The team has now won the Frosh GMC meet two years in a row! Leading the way with event victories were the following athletes: Janai Orders in the 400 Hurdles (74.62 PR); Sabrina Ray in the Pole Vault (8'0); Chelsea Eltringham in the High Jump (4'8); and Jessica Rodgers in the Javelin (83'9). A small group of Vikings made a successful trip to the always-competitive East Coast Relays on Monday, as all nine who competed earned medals!

In the throwing events, the team placed top-5 in all three events! In the discus the team of Olivia Scattergood (115'11 PR), Miranda Irizarry (100'1 PR), and Paige Buchanan (97'2) combined to throw 313'2 to finish in 2nd, only 1 inch away from 1st! Finishing in 3rd place was the javelin team of Irizarry (122'9), Julianna Franco (106'4 PR), and Buchanan (100'7) that totaled 329'8. The shot put trio of Ina Griffin-Padgett (34'1.5 PR), Scattergood (33'6.75) and Irizarry (32'10.5) combined to finish 5th with a distance of 100'6.75. On the track, the shuttle hurdle team of Ominay Robertson, Misha Duverger, Gillian Chambres, and Nicole Notarianni ran 63.95 for 2nd, just .04 away from first! The time was a season-best, and is currently ranked 4th in New Jersey!

5/16/2016 South Brunswick 147 GMC Championships 85 GMC Champions!

South Brunswick scored 147 points and stormed to its 11th straight GMC title on Monday night in Old Bridge! The team used a 98 point outburst on the second day of the meet to win over a very competitive East Brunswick team. The Vikings won 7 of the 18 events, placed in 14 events, and had 19 athletes contribute to the scoring!

Leading the way with a spectacular meet was Desirae Osley. On Saturday she won the 400 in a PR of 56.65, the #2 time in school history and the second fastest in the state this spring! On Monday, she won the 200 in 25.20, another PR, second fastest in school history, and #7 in the state so far this spring! She earned a third gold medal by anchoring the 4x400 team to a season-best time of 3:55.19, which is 3rd in the state, and fourth all-time in school history! In addition, she anchored the 4x100 to a 2nd place finish of 49.00, which was also a season best and the sixth fastest in school history!

Other winners on the first day were Courteney Campbell and Olivia Scattergood, both of whom won their first outdoor GMC titles! Campbell cleared a winning height of 5'6, which is tied for the top mark in the state this spring, while Scattergood threw 111-11 in the discus!

On Monday, Daniella Izzo won her second straight outdoor GMC title in the Pole Vault with her leap of 10'6! Miranda Irizarry won her first GMC title with a win in the Javelin at 113'10! Joining Osley on the winning 4x400 were Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, and Inayah Jones.

The team had many other great performances throughout the meet, including 1-2-3 sweeps in the Javelin and Pole Vault, as well as all three competitors medaling in the Shot Put and Discus!

5/4/2016 South Brunswick 126 Middlesex County Relays 108 Vikings Win 11th Straight GMC Relays title!

The Vikings captured their 11th straight GMC Relays title on Wednesday after a terrific two days of competition despite chilly and damp conditions! The team scored 126 points and received many clutch performances to pull away from a strong East Brunswick team. Leading by 4 points after the first day's events, including two event victories, the Vikings won five more events on Wednesday to win the meet by the final margin of 18 points! Along with winning seven events, the team set one new meet record, and placed top-4 in all 16 events!

The other winning relay on Day 1 was the discus team of Olivia Scattergood (106'5), Paige Buchanan (93'7) and Miranda Irizarry (91'10) that combined to throw 291'10!

On Day 2, the Vikings won 3 more field events to go along with 2 track victories. On the track, the team won the Shuttle Hurdles for the 7th straight year, as the lineup of Ominay Robertson, Misha Duverger, Gillian Chambres, and Nicole Notarianni ran a season best of 64.20! Winning the 4x100 for the 3rd straight year were Latisha Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, Essence Baker, and Desirae Osley with their season best time of 49.75!

In the field, the pole vaulters took the title for the 7th straight season, with Daniella Izzo (10'6), Maggie Kaplan (9'6), and Camryn Meranchik (9'0) making up the team. The throwers completed their sweep of the throwing events for the 6th straight year with the shot put trio of Irizarry (35'9.5), Olivia Scattergood (33'3.75), and Ina Griffin-Padgett (30'7 PR) coming through for the win with a total of 99'8.25, and the javelin team of Irizarry (107'4), Julianna Franco (96'9), and Buchanan (90'0) throwing a combined 294'1 to mark the 7th straight year the Vikings have won the javelin relay!

South Brunswick had a strong showing at chilly and damp Franklin Field on Thursday at the Penn Relays! The team competed in four events, and had season best performances in two of them! Leading the way with a big season best was the 4x400 team of Essence Baker, Brianna Araque, Latisha Witherspoon, and Desirae Osley that ran 4:00.47 to finish 2nd in their heat and earn medals! The 4x800 team of Desirae Osley, Chantel Osley, Baker, and Natalie Ginez ran a season best of 9:47.94 and became the first Viking 4x800 relay to qualify for and compete in the Penn Relays! The 4x100 relay team of Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, Chloe Hypolite, and Ominay Robertson ran a strong race to comfortably win their heat with a time of 50.45! Courteney Campbell was the lone individual competitor, and she finished tied for 10th in the high jump at 5-1.

4/23/2016 Colts Neck Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Win 6 Events at Colts Neck Relays!

South Brunswick had a strong showing at a pair of meets on Saturday! At the Colts Neck Relays the team won six varsity events, while the pole vault relays competed at the Blue Devil Classic in Westfield, where both teams earned medals! At Colts Neck, relay winners on the track were the 4x100 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Ominay Robertson, Essence Baker, and Desirae Osley that ran 50.81; the 4x200 team of Baker, Witherspoon, Brianna Araque, and Osley that ran 1:45.91; and both hurdle relays, with the shuttle team of Robertson, Misha Duverger, Gillian Chambres, and Nicole Notarianni taking the win in 66.99, while the 3x400 Hurdle team of Araque, Chloe Hypolite and Duverger ran 3:28.63! In the field, Courteney Campbell and Chelsea Eltringham jumped a combined 10-0 for the victory! Individually, Desirae Osley won the 400 in 59.06! Also of note, many other athletes set season or personal bests, including many of the 1600 runners, led by medal winners Nicole Fenske, 5th in 5:23.33, and Chantel Osley, 6th in 5:26.32.

At Westfield, the varsity pole vault tandem of Daniella Izzo and Maggie Kaplan took 2nd at 19-6, while the frosh/soph team of Camryn Meranchik and Sabrina Ray jumped 17-0 for the win, with Meranchik breaking the sophomore class record with her height of 10-0!

4/13/2016 South Brunswick 108 Old Bridge 32 Vikings Improve to 3-0!

The Vikings had a great showing on Wednesday against Old Bridge, as the team won 14 of the 16 events and had many great performances throughout the meet! Highlighting the performances was double winner Courteney Campbell, who improved her own school record in the high jump with her leap of 5'7! Her mark beats her own school record of 5'6, which was set indoors this winter, and improves on the previous outdoor school record of 5'4 set in 1984! In addition, she also won the long jump with a mark of 16'2! The other double winner individually was Miranday Irizarry, who won the shot put (35'11.75) and the javelin (107'6)! Teaming up to win the 4x400 in a time of 4:12.0 were the following athletes, each of whom also won an individual event: Inayah Jones (100, 13.0 PR), Chantel Osley (1600, 5:30.6), Annalyse Varlow (Triple Jump, 35'4 PR), and Latisha Witherspoon (200, 26.4 PR). South Brunswick opened their dual meet season on Tuesday with a victory over Piscataway! The team won 11 of the 16 events and had 28 athletes contribute points to the winning effort.

The Vikings began the 2016 Spring season with a small contingent of throwers competing at the rainy Raider Relays in Hillsborough on Saturday. All 6 relays that competed earned medals, including the first place varsity Javelin relay of Miranda Irizarry (117-1) and Paige Buchanan (95-6) that combined to throw 212-7!
