The Lady Vikings had some strong performances at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, highlighted by Kristin Krier's 4th place showing in the Emerging Elite Javelin! Her mark of 117-3 was a new PR, and broke her own freshman class record!

In addition, the Sprint Medley team of Julia Lekht, Rochelle McDonald, Alicia Osley, and Cayla Del Piano ran a season-best 4:05.33 to finish 10th in a competitive field.

6/11/2012 Meet of Champions 0 South Brunswick 0 2 Medalists at Meet of Champs!

The Lady Vikings had two medalists at the Meet of Champions! Cayla Del Piano set a new PR with her time of 4:54.31, which earned her 5th place in the 1600, while Lindsay Carbone tied for 5th in the pole vault with PR-tying height of 11-0!

In addition, Alicia Osley had a season best of 57.25 to place 10th in the 400, while Danielle Padovano had a PR of 37-4.5 to place 13th in the shot put, and she also placed 11th in the discus with a throw of 115-5.

6/2/2012 Group IV State Championships 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Advance 7 to Meet of Champs!

The Vikings performed well over the weekend at the Group IV State meet, with a total of 7 athletes advancing to the Meet of Champions! The team medaled in 6 events and tied for 8th place in the team standings. Two athletes won multiple medals, led by triple medalist Cayla Del Piano. She placed 4th in the 1600 (5:02.79), 5th in the 800 (2:15.72), and ran a leg on the 5th place 4x400! Danielle Padovano had a PR of 36-10 in the shot put to grab 3rd place, and she also placed 6th in the discus (118-9)! Lindsay Carbone tied for 3rd in the pole vault, and equaled her PR of 11-0, the 2nd best height in school history!

The 4x400 team of Aspen McMillan, Del Piano, Rochelle McDonald, and Alicia Osley ran 3:54.14 to finish 5th. Their time is the second fastest in school history, and marks the 3rd straight year a Viking foursome has medaled in that event at Groups! In addition, Osley will advance to the Meet of Champions as a wildcard in the 400, and will also run the 4x100 there along with McDonald, McMillan, and Julia Lekht, who qualified based on times run earlier in the season.

5/26/2012 Central Jersey IV Sectionals 0 South Brunswick 0 9 Advance to States

South Brunswick came up 6 points short of winning it's 4th straight Sectional title, but did manage to score in 13 of the 16 events, and advance 9 athletes to the Group IV State Championships. The team scored 65 points over the two-day meet, and finished in 2nd place.

Highlights for the team were a pair of victories. On Friday, Danielle Padovano came from behind to capture her first Sectional title, winning the discus with a PR of 121-10! She also threw a big PR of 36-8 in the shot put to take 3rd in that event! In the final event of the day on Saturday, the 4x400 relay team of Aspen McMillan, Cayla Del Piano, Rochelle McDonald, and Alicia Osley was victorious in a season-best time of 3:55.34! The victory marked the 2nd straight year a Viking foursome had won that event at Sectionals.

Osley, Del Piano, and McMillan each won three medals over the weekend. In addition to the relay, Osley finished 2nd in the 400 (57.26, senior class record) and 5th in the 200 (26.28), Del Piano was 2nd in the 800 (2:17.47) and 6th in the 1600 (5:11.13), and McMillan was 5th in the 100 Hurdles (15.10 PR) and 6th in the 400 Hurdles (66.02 PR), both times lowering her own freshman records.

Other medalists were Lindsay Carbone, 3rd in the pole vault (11-0 PR); Kristin Krier, 4th in the javelin (108-5); Jada-Rae Poku, 4th in the high jump (5-0 PR, ties freshman record); Julia Lekht, 5th in the long jump (17-3.5 PR); and McDonald, 6th in the 200 (26.50).

The Vikings battled through the rain on Monday night to post some strong marks at the East Coast Relays in Randolph. Highlights included the 2nd place finish by the shuttle hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Savannah Barton, and Aspen McMillan. Their time of 63.35 is a season best, and the 2nd fastest in school history! In the field, Kristin Krier (112-0) and Rachel VanDemark (91-3) combined to throw 203-3 for 4th place, with Krier's mark breaking the 29 year old freshman class record! In addition, the 4x100 team of Alicia Osley, Rochelle McDonald, Lekht, and McMillan ran 50.26 to finish 6th.

5/17/2012 Metuchen Last Chance/Holmdel Twilight 0 South Brunswick 0 PRs Galore at a Pair of Meets!

The Lady Vikings had many personal bests on Thursday at two meets, the Holmdel Twilight and the Metuchen Last Chance meet. Among the notable personal best times at Holmdel was Cayla Del Piano's first place showing in the 1600 with a time of 4:55.52! Also running well in the Holmdel 1600 were Nicolette Mateescu, who turned in a huge PR of 5:21.26, and Elisa Meranchik, who ran a PR of 5:27.74.

At Metuchen, Rochelle McDonald finished 2nd in the 200 with a new freshman class record of 26.13! Other strong times in the top-6 at Metuchen included Aspen McMillan's 4th place time of 59.67 (PR) in the 400, which was just off the freshman class record; Jess Himmel's 5th place 800 PR of 2:32.40; Taiyana Madden's 6th place 800 PR of 2:33.51; and Julia Lekht's 400 PR of 61.72 in 6th place.

South Brunswick defeated Old Bridge on Wednesday to finish the dual meet season a perfect 8-0! This completes the team's 6th straight undefeated season! Multiple event winners on the day were Julia Lekht, who took the triple jump (35-5), the long jump (16-7), and the 100 Hurdles (15.9), while Danielle Padovano won the shot put (34-3) and the discus (116-10). Other event winners were Monet Hall in the 400 Hurdles (73.2), Victoria Monteiro in the 400 (62.7), Elisa Meranchik in the 3200 (12:19.3), Savannah Barton in the pole vault (9-0), Kristin Krier in the javelin (94-7), and the 4x400 team of Taiyana Madden, Hall, Emily Kaiser, and Naeemah Jones that ran 4:27.2.

The Lady Vikings stormed to their 7th straight GMC Championship on Saturday, as the team scored 121 points and won 6 events! The team scored in 13 of the 16 events, and had 15 athletes contribute to the scoring!

Leading the way with event wins were the following athletes: Cayla Del Piano in the 1600 (5:13.67) and 3200 (11:12.44); Lindsay Carbone in the pole vault (10-6 PR); Julia Lekht in the long jump (16-5.75); Alicia Osley in the 400 (57.82); and Danielle Padovano in the discus (119-0 PR).

The Vikings defeated East Brunswick on Tuesday, capping an undefeated 4 years of home competition for the class of 2012! The team won all 16 events, and had 24 athletes contribute to the scoring! Leading the way was triple winner Julia Lekht. She won the long jump (16-9), the triple jump (34-4.5), and the 100 Hurdles (16.5), and ran a leg on the winning 4x400! Double winners were Alicia Osley, who captured the 100 (12.9) and 200 (26.0), and Danielle Padovano, who won the shot put (32-9.5) and discus (104-5). A small number of Vikings travelled to Robbinsville for the Mercer Twilight meet, and 7 of them came home with medals for their top-6 performances!

Top marks were a trio of 2nd place finishes. On the track, Aspen McMillan took over a second off the freshman 400 Hurdles record with her time of 66.07! In the field, Kristin Krier nearly broke the freshman record with her throw of 109-1 in the javelin. Lindsay Carbone also finished 2nd with her jump of 10-0 in the pole vault. Other medalists were Danielle Padovano, 3rd in both the shot put (35-7.5) and discus (111-0); Julia Lekht, 3rd in the triple jump (34-10) and 5th in the long jump (16-0); Savannah Barton, 4th in the pole vault (9-6); and Lindsay Del Piano, tied for 6th in the pole vault (9-0).

The Lady Vikings captured their 7th straight Middlesex County Relays title on Thursday night, as the team won 9 events, broke 3 meet records, and had 27 athletes contribute to scoring 125 points!

Team highlights were three meet records being broken on the second day of competition. In the field, the pole vault relay of Savannah Barton (9-6), Lindsay Carbone (9-6), and Lindsay Del Piano (9-0) crushed the old meet record by 3.5 feet with their combined total of 28-0! On the track, both medley relays broke records set by Viking teams in 2009. The sprint medley team of Alicia Osley, Rochelle McDonald, Victoria Monteiro, and Cayla Del Piano ran 4:05.70 to break the old record by 5 seconds! In the distance medley, Nicolette Mateescu, Osley, Emily Lane, and Cayla ran 12:45.04 to break the meet record by 3 seconds!

On day one, the Vikings won both the 4x1600 (22:15.02) and the discus (275-9). Elisa Meranchik, Mateescu, Zenzali Lael, and Cayla ran on the 4x1600, while Danielle Padovano, Alyssa McFarlane, and Brianna Del Piano were on the discus relay.

Other winning relays on day two were the shuttle hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Barton, and Aspen McMillan that ran 64.10; the long jump team of Lekht (16-0.25), Carbone (15-7.5), and McMillan (15-4.75) that jumped a combined 47-0.5; the javelin team of McFarlane (102-10), Kristin Krier (100-1), and Courtney Hendrickson (89-4) that threw a distance of 292-3; and the shot put team of Padovano (34-7.5), McFarlane (30-6.5), and Nateya Harris (29-7.5) that threw a combined 94-9.5.

The Vikings had a strong day at the Penn Relays on Thursday, highlighted by Cayla Del Piano's 9th place finish in the Mile with a time that broke the Middlesex County Record for that event! Her time of 4:58.32 is also the 2nd fastest in the state so far this season! Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays had strong performances. The same foursome of Alicia Osley, Rochelle McDonald, Julia Lekht, and Aspen McMillan won their heat in the 4x100 with a time of 50.36, and also ran a season-best of 4:03.39 in the 4x400!

The Vikings defeated Edison on Tuesday to improve to 6-0! The team won 13 events and had 22 athletes contribute to the scoring! Leading the way with two victories were Danielle Padovano in the shot put (34-10) and discus (103-5), and Lindsay Carbone in the triple jump (31-10) and pole vault (9-6).

Other event winners were Zyjira Thomas in the 400 Hurdles (70.0), Nicolette Mateescu in the 1600 (5:37), Jessica Himmel in the 400 (63.5), Cayla Del Piano in the 800 (2:14.9), Kristin Tran in the 3200 (12:45), Julia Lekht in the long jump (15-10), Jada-Rae Poku in the high jump (4-8), Kristin Krier in the javelin (104-0), and the 4x400 team of Himmel, Lekht, Del Piano, and Taiyana Madden that ran 4:13.8.

4/21/2012 Raider Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Win 2 Events at Raider Relays!

South Brunswick had a nice showing at the Raider Relays on Saturday, with 2 winning relays and many other medal-winning relays!

Both the 4x100 and shuttle hurdle relays were victorious! In the 4x100, Alicia Osley, Rochelle McDonald, Julia Lekht, and Aspen McMillan ran a time of 49.85, while the shuttle hurdle team of Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Savannah Barton, and McMillan clocked a time of 64.58. Both times were season-bests!

Also medaling was the 2nd place Distance Medley team of Nicolette Mateescu, Osley, Emily Lane, and Cayla Del Piano that ran 12:38.02; the 4th place long jump tandem of McMillan and Lindsay Carbone that combined for a a distance of 30-4.5; the high jump duo of Jada-Rae Poku and Kelly Rose Harkness that tied for 4th at 9-6; the 5th place 4x400 team of Taiyana Madden, Victoria Monteiro, Nicole Sendner, and McDonald that ran 4:16.12; the 6th place shot put team of Alyssa McFarlane and Nateya Harris that threw 60-5.25; the 6th place javelin relay of Kristin Krier and McFarlane that threw 190-6; the 6th place pole vault team of Carbone and Lindsay Del Piano that jumped a combined 18-6; and the 6th place 800 Sprint Medley team of Khadija McDonald, Rochelle McDonald, Monteiro, and Jess Himmel that ran 1:57.28.

The team was led by triple winner Lindsay Carbone, who won the long jump (15-11), the triple jump (32-6), and the pole vault with a new PR of 10-0!

The Lady Vikings swept a pair of dual meets on Tuesday, as they defeated Sayreville 109-31 and New Brunswick 124-15! The team won 14 of the events and had many strong performances. Leading the way were Rochelle McDonald, Aspen McMillan, and Danielle Padovano, each of whom won 2 events against both teams! McDonald won the 100 (12.8) and 400 (63.4), McMillan captured the 100 Hurdles (15.4) and Long Jump (16-8.75), and Padovano won the Shot Put (32-1) and Discus (99-7). The Vikings had many strong performances at the Metuchen Relays on Saturday, highlighted by two 1st place finishes! The javelin team of Alyssa McFarlane (109-5) and Rachel VanDemark (96-11) combined to throw a winning total of 206-4, while the shuttle hurdle team of Julia Lekht, Zyjira Thomas, Savannah Barton, and Aspen McMillan ran 65.51 to take the win! Both relays also broke meet records set by Viking relays last year!

Other top-3 finishes in the meet were recorded by the 4x800 team of Cayla Del Piano, Emily Lane, Niky Mateescu, and Kristin Tran that ran 10:09.32 to finish 3rd; the Distance Medley team of Del Piano, Nikki Sendner, Lane, and Mateescu that finished 3rd in 13:08.73; and the 3rd place discus team of Danielle Padovano (100-10) and Brianna Del Piano (81-9) that combined to throw 182-5.

The Lady Vikings opened the spring season Tuesday with victories over Piscataway (93-47) and JP Stevens (117-23)! The team had many impressive performances throughout the meet! Leading the way with multiple 1st place finishes against both teams were Julia Lekht in the long jump (16-7) and triple jump (34-1.75), and Aspen McMillan in the 100 Hurdles (15.0) and 400 Hurdles (67.5). Her time in the 100 Hurdles shattered the freshman class record by 1.6 seconds!
