South Brunswick was well represented at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals over the weekend. 14 Vikings competed over the three days in Greensboro, NC, with the highlights coming on the final day. Courteney Campbell broke her own school record when she jumped 5'8.75 to earn 5th place in the Championship High Jump! Her top-6 finish earned her All-American honors for the second straight season! Also on Sunday, Essence Baker ran 2:13.76 in the Emerging Elite 800 to break the 6-year old school record! Her time placed her 12th in the EE division. The other highlight of the weekend was the 1600 Sprint Medley team of Joanna Taitt, Misha Duverger, Inayah Jones, and Essence Baker running 4:05.80, a time that is 5th fastest in school history and #5 in New Jersey this spring!

The Vikings had two athletes earn medals on Saturday at the NJSIAA Meet of Champions! Courteney Campbell jumped 5-6 to earn a tie for 4th place in an ultra-competitive high jump competition, while Essence Baker ran a PR of 2:13.86 to finish 8th in the 800, and just missed the school record in the process!

6/3/2017 Group IV State Championships 52 South Brunswick 37 3rd Place Finish at States!
South Brunswick fell short of winning the Group IV State title, but did manage to finish 3rd overall, to tie their highest finish ever, while also scoring the most points in team history, 37.33! The team also advanced 14 athletes to the Meet of Champions next Saturday! The team had 6 athletes earn medals in a total of 7 events to automatically advance to the MOC, while 8 other athletes will advance as wildcards.
Leading the way with her second consecutive Group IV State title in the High Jump was Courteney Campbell! She set a season best and tied her PR of 5'8!
The next highest finish was Olivia Scattergood, who finished 2nd in the discus, while also breaking the school record with her throw of 126'4!
Miranda Irizarry also had a great weekend, as she finished in 3rd place in both the Shot Put (37-6) and Javelin (122-11)!
Fourth place finishes were recorded by Nicole Notarianni in the 100 Hurdles (15.34), and Sabrina Ray in the Pole Vault (10'0)! Essence Baker earned the final medal, a 6th place in the 800 with her PR of 2:14.21, which is #2 in school history!
Other athletes who will earn wildcards are Paige Buchanan in the Javelin (9th, 111'8), and all three relay teams. The 4x800 team of Chantel Osley, Cassie Vega, Danae Audibert, and Baker ran a season-best of 9:36.62 to take 7th place (#3 in school history), the 4x400 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, Chloe Hypolite and Baker ran 3:59.10 for 8th, and the 4x100 team of Witherspoon, Ray, Misha Duverger, and Jones finished 9th in 49.64.

5/27/2017 South Brunswick 94 Central Jersey Group IV Sectionals 55 Sectional Three-Peat!
The Vikings won their third consecutive Central Jersey Group IV Championship on Saturday in Hillsborough! Tied for first after Friday's events, the team used an outstanding performance on Saturday to pull away for the victory! The team piled up 94 points, won 4 events, and had a total of 15 athletes earn medals and advance to next week's Group IV State Championship meet!
Victories on Friday were turned in by Courteney Campbell and Olivia Scattergood! Campbell won the high jump with a leap of 5'6, which is her first outdoor Sectional title! Scattergood won the discus for the second straight year, coming from behind on her last throw of 114'8!
On Saturday, Nicole Notarianni pulled out the win in the 100 Hurdles (15.05), while Sabrina Ray came through with a surprise win in the pole vault with her height of 10'0!
2nd place finishes went to the following athletes: Miranda Irizarry in the shot put (38'7.25) and javelin (121'6), both of which were season bests; Essence Baker in the 800 (2:18.33); and both the 4x100 (49.12) and 4x400 (3:59.05) relays. Latisha Witherspoon and Inayah Jones ran on both relays, and were joined by Ray and Misha Duverger on the 4x100, and Chloe Hypolite and Baker on the 4x400.
Finishing in 3rd place was Paige Buchanan in the javelin (114'7), and the 4x800 team of Chantel Osley, Cassie Vega, Danae Audibert, and Baker that ran a season-best of 9:39.13.
The scoring was rounded out by Cyanna Padmore, who had a huge personal best in placing 5th in the discus with her throw of 107'7!

The Viking Freshmen had their night to shine on Wednesday, and earned their own GMC Championship with a dominant performance! The team won only two events, but used their depth and a total of 14 athletes scoring points to pile up 117 points to run away with the the title! The two winners were Liz Matticoli in the Javelin, and the 4x400 team of Mirna Boopalam, Grace Boekhout-Whiting, Isabel Sananes, and Lauren Powell. Many other athletes earned medals and set new personal bests!

The Class of 2017 finished their careers undefeated in GMC competition (GMCs, GMC Relays, and dual meets) on Friday with a 102-29 victory at home over Old Bridge! The team finished 5-0 in dual meets this year, marking the team's 11th straight season without a dual meet loss! All four grades contributed to the team's total of 12 event victories! Leading the way with three event victories was Raquel Ferrara, who took the long jump (16'1.5), triple jump (33'1), and high jump (4'10)! Miranda Irizarry won two events in her final dual meet, as she captured the shot put (35'10) and javelin (114'8)! Other victories were recorded by Chloe Hypolite in the 400 Hurdles (68.1); Misha Duverger in the 100 (12.9); Lauren Powell in the 400 (63.4); Nicole Notarianni in the 100 Hurdles (15.1); Olivia Hutchison in the 200 (27.7); Olivia Scattergood in the Discus (114'1); and Sabrina Ray, who broke the sophomore class record in the pole vault with her winning jump of 10'1!

5/16/2017 South Brunswick 124 GMC Championships 63 GMC Champions!
The Vikings finished off another championship effort on Tuesday night by winning the program's 12th consecutive GMC title! The team scored a total of 124 points over the two days, with 19 athletes contributing to the scoring output, including 8 event victories!
Following up their three event victories on Friday, the team added five more on Tuesday. Leading the way with two gold medals was Essence Baker, who ran a PR in the 800 (2:15.11, #3 in school history) to win her first outdoor county title, and then returned later to anchor the 4x400 team to a come-from-behind victory in 3:56.41, a big season-best and #7 in school history!
Other event winners on Tuesday were Nicole Notarianni in the 100 Hurdles (14.81 PR, #4 in school history); Courteney Campbell in the High Jump (5'4); Olivia Scattergood in the Discus (114'10); and joining Baker on the winning 4x400 were Latisha Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, and Chloe Hypolite, with all four athletes running personal best splits!
The team also had many other PRs and strong performances over the two days of competition.
The Vikings had a strong first day of competition at the GMC Championships Friday at Old Bridge. The team won three of the nine events, scored in seven of them, and had multiple scorers in four events!
Leading the way with event victories was Sabrina Ray in the Pole Vault (9'6), Miranda Irizarry in the Javelin (116'1), and the 4x800 team of Chantel Osley, Danae Audibert, Natalie Ginez, and Cassie Vega that ran 9:46.01, #6 in school history!

5/3/2017 South Brunswick 144 GMC Relays 61 GMC Relays Champions!
South Brunswick had an outstanding two days of competition to win its 12th straight GMC Relays championship on Wednesday night! The team won 10 of the 16 varsity events, both novice events, and scored a dominating 144 points to capture the title! The event victories were split evenly between the field and track, and were highlighted by a sweep of the throwing events for the 7th straight season!
Winning events on Tuesday were the following relays: the 4x1600 team of Natalie Ginez, Chantel Osley, Danae Audibert, and Nicole Fenske (22:25.27, #4 in school history); the 4x200 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Inayah Jones, Joanna Taitt, and Misha Duverger (1:44.06, #6 in school history); the Sprint Medley team of Witherspoon, Stephanie Steiner-Otoo, Olivia Hutchison, and Essence Baker that ran 4:13.06 (#8 in school history); the High Jump team of Courteney Campbell, Raquel Ferrara, and Chelsea Eltringham that combined to jump 14-10; and the Discus team of Olivia Scattergood, Miranda Irizarry, and Paige Buchanan that threw a total of 326-5!
On Wednesday, winning relay teams were the 4x800 team of Ginez, Osley, Cassie Vega, and Baker that ran 9:54.29; the 4x100 team of Witherspoon, Sabrina Ray, Duverger, and Jones that ran 50.02; the Shot Put team of Irizarry, Scattergood, and Cyanna Padmore that combined for 100-5.5; the Pole Vault team of Ray, Camryn Meranchik, and Riley Ratcliffe that jumped 26-0; and the Javelin team of Irizarry, Buchanan, and Jess Rodgers that threw 334-11 to break the Meet Record held by another Viking trio!
In addition, the team won both novice events by large margins. In the Novice SMR, the lineup of Lauren Powell, Mirna Boopalam, Mahogany Broughton, and Marisa Keiser ran 4:33.75 for the win, while the novice 4x800 team of Sanjana Raj, Liann Zyontz, Sophia Milla, and Archana Ramkumar ran 10:45.30!

4/27/2017 Penn Relays 0 South Brunswick 0 Vikings Shine at Penn Relays!
South Brunswick had a great day at the competitive Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on Thursday! The team competed in 3 events and performed at a high level in each event! Leading the way with a spectacular performance was Courteney Campbell, who earned a 4th place medal with her season-best of 5'7.25 (1.71 meters) in the high jump! The 4x100 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Sabrina Ray, Misha Duverger, and Inayah Jones ran a huge season best of 48.63! Their time is the 3rd fastest in school history, and was the 5th fastest time by a New Jersey school in the meet! The 4x400 also ran a season best and just missed breaking four minutes with their strong time of 4:00.02! The time just missed breaking into the school's all-time top-10 list, but their 2nd place finish in the heat earned them medals! The lineup consisted of Witherspoon, Jones, Chloe Hypolite, and Essence Baker.

South Brunswick had a great showing at their first full-team invitational meet of the season! The team captured the A Division team title at the East Brunswick Invite, along with 8 event victories! The victories were evenly spread between field and track events, and covered all event areas! For the second straight week, the team swept the throwing events (shot - 102'0.5, discus - 295'3, and javelin - 312'10) at a relay meet! Miranda Irizarry contributed to all three winning teams, and was joined by Paige Buchanan on the discus and javelin teams; Olivia Scattergood on the discus and shot put teams; Cyanna Padmore on the shot put team; and Jessica Rodgers in the javelin relay! The team also finished first in the high jump relay, as the trio of Courteney Campbell, Raquel Ferrara, and Chelsea Eltringham combined to jump 14'10! On the track, the hurdlers had a great day, winning both the 3x400 Hurdles (3:28.89) and the Shuttle Hurdles (65.29). Nicole Notarianni and Misha Duverger ran on both relays, along with Chloe Hypolite in the intermediates, and Chelsea Eltringham and Janai Orders on the Shuttle team. The final two event winners were the 4x100 team of Latisha Witherspoon, Sabrina Ray, Duverger, and Inayah Jones that ran 49.68 (10th fastest in school history), and the 4x800 team of Natalie Ginez, Essence Baker, Nicole Fenske, and Cassie Vega that ran 9:44.99, which is the 5th fastest relay in school history!

The Viking throwers had a dominant performance at the Comet Relays in Hackensack on Saturday! The team competed in five events and won all five!
In the varsity competition, the team won Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin Relays. Miranda Irizarry, Olivia Scattergood, and Cyanna Padmore made up the Shot team; Scattergood, Paige Buchanan, and Irizarry were the Discus lineup; and Irizarry, Buchanan, and Jess Rodgers were the winning javelin team.

South Brunswick improved to 2-0 on Wednesday with a 90-50 victory over Monroe! The team won 10 events and had many strong performances.
Winning events on the track were Cassie Vega in the 1600 (5:35); Latisha Witherspoon in the 400 (60.3); Nicole Notarianni in the 100 Hurdles (15.1); Natalie Ginez in the 800 (2:30.7); and the 4x400 relay team of Lauren Powell, Joanna Taitt, Riley Ratcliffe, and Notarianni that ran 4:23.9 for the win.

South Brunswick started their spring season with a victory at East Brunswick Saturday! The team battled through cold and windy conditions to capture 9 of the 15 events (javelin was not contested) and win the meet 80-51. Event winners in the field were Janai Orders in the Triple Jump (33'4); Miranda Irizarry in the Shot Put (33'10.75); Olivia Scattergood in the discus (102'11); and Sabrina Ray in the Pole Vault (9'0).
