Advice from a Graduate
Those 4 years really do go by fast. You’ll hear it from most seniors, and you won’t believe them at the time but when you’re in their shoes, counting down the last days of high school, you’ll think that they weren’t totally wrong. Or at least that’s me. I can remember being in the technology lab in elementary school trying to remember my school password, knowing that I’ll have it for the next 12 years. I can remember the last day of middle school, the sun shining and warm breeze through my hair as I’m walking out for the last time, knowing I have four long years ahead of me.
I won’t lie, high school isn’t a breeze; it’s tough with so many ups and downs, but hopefully you’ll be appreciative of the time you’ve spent here in the end. The individual days can feel like centuries, but when you’re looking back, freshman year feels like yesterday. Branch out and make new friends, a good group of friends, not the kind that complain all the time, but can find the positives in the little things. Be friendly to the teachers, be personable and friendly, because connection is everything. Get involved in clubs, athletics, community service, and especially spirit days and pep rallies because they’re a lot of fun. There will be test scores that are great, and others that are not so great, but don’t let them define who you are and set you back. Always keep your head up and look forward, the connections that you make along the way will be everything. Be appreciative of the time that you have because one day, everything will change, people will move away from each other and maybe you’ll even be leaving your hometown. Find comfort and happiness in the next four years of your life.
