Selfie Still Life

The subject of the artwork is a still life of personal items. The setting is the mountains. My work was made by pencil and color pencil. The artwork was composed by looking at the objects and taking a view finder to find the view I wanted to draw. I chose to draw these objects because the cat looks just like the cat I had when I was growing up, the salt shaker because I love to cook and bake, the apple charger because I have a strong connection to my phone, lastly mountains because I love to ski. Principles I used in my artwork is contrast which is found in the color choice, I made the objects pop compared to the background and the sky in the background of the mountains make the mountains slightly pop. Another Principle I used in my artwork pattern which is found in the cat, the zig-zag design that is found in the body. Elements that I used were texture and form. Texture is found in the mountains, I tried to make the mountains have more form which the other Element I used in my artwork.

Rules and Techniques I used in my artwork is informal balance and grouping. Informal balance is found in the cat and the salt shaker, the cat is a lot larger than the salt shaker and they overlap. The grouping is found in the mountains because they are grouped together. I revised the yellow bow many times because I couldn't get it to look exactly like the stuffed animal. Another thing I revised was the lid of the salt shaker, it took three tries to get it to look like a salt shaker lid.

I think my artwork would be a lot stronger if the mountains weren't there and I chose something different for a background because I think the mountains are gray and boring. If I had drawn my childhood bedroom I think the artwork would mean a lot more to me and it wouldn't be so boring gray.
