Respond and Confront

We were required to read an article about a artist that uses real problems in the world to influence his artwork. So we got to chose a problem going on in the real world and use it to influence our project. I chose to do my project on rhinoceros poaching. People go out and hunt rhinos to sell their horns for big money. In some cases, people will just kill the rhinos for their horn and leave them there. I found it very upsetting to read about and I also chose this because not a lot of people know about rhino poaching and I felt I could do them a favor by teaching them with my art. I used the coil technique to build my horn up. I made a base then rolled out coils then wrapped them around. Every couple of inches I smoothed out the inside and outside of the horn all the way up to the top of the horn. I craved out a number to represent the amount of rhinos that were killed last year due to poaching. When I glazed this project, I decided to make the horn white and the outline of the colors would be a red to represent the blood. One thing I do not like about this project was how big it came out. I wish I hadn't made it so big. I definitly wasn't happy with the outcome of this project.
