Nature Inspired:
Man Made:
Sgraffito:
I freehanded the sgraffito sphere.
The process (same for each sphere):
1. You start with two pieces of clay with equal weight.
2. You make them into balls
3. You start to pinch the pots
4. You attach the two pinch pots by a process called scratch, scratch, water, attach
5. You add your own design on top or into the clay for your own creative addition
For my nature inspired sphere, I knew I wanted to do something with leaves. I decided to cut out leaves and scratch them onto the sphere. I realized that the leaves by themselves weren't enough so I tried to add a little bit of texture to the leaves. As soon as the Sphere had been bisque fired, I chose to do a dark green for all the leaves then a clear background. If I could go back I would make all the leaves a different color green for a little bit more color, to me it is a little bland.
For my man made sphere, I had no idea what I wanted to do at first but the idea of doing a shoelace came to me. I carved out the strings and the circles for the holes of the shoelaces. I scratched them into the sphere. I decided to a clear coat after the bisque fire. I should've added more color and ended the shoelaces with a bow for a finishing touch.
For my sgraffito sphere, I chose to freehand the design. I did a couple of wavy lines and carved out some holes. I underglazed this sphere a purple color. I really like how this sphere came out. I would change the detail on the sphere, I believe that I could've a little bit more into detail.
