In a world with hundreds of football teams, 2 major conferences stand out from the crowd. The Big 10 and the SEC are arguably the best conferences in all of college football right now. They each have multiple top-25 teams that have a good chance of winning the National Championship. For years, it has been a one-sided battle from the dawn of time. Although recently the tides have turned and it is now a close battle between the Big 10 and the SEC on who is the college football power conference.
Southwestern Conference
First of all, there is a solid argument for why the SEC is the best conference. For example, they have the number 1 and 2 teams in the nation, which is Texas and Georgia. Another example of this is that they have 10 of the top 25 teams in the nation. Although the Big 10 was founded 36 years before the SEC, (Big 10 - 1896/ SEC - 1932) was much more dominant than the Big 10. Across 6 teams, the SEC has 27 National Championships and has the most total championships of all conferences. Also, the SEC has some of the all-time best teams and some of the greatest coaches to ever coach the sports. For example they have Nick Saben who won a title at LSU and 6 at Alabama which are both SEC teams, there is also Bud Wilkinson who has a 47-0 winning streak and he won 3 national titles at Oklahoma.
To add to this argument, there are many reasons why the Big 10 has a chance to match and/or overthrow the college football conferences. The Big 10 was founded before the SEC, but they were a small conference consisting of 7 teams. Now (110 years later) There are 18 teams and are arguably the biggest growing conference in the world of college football. Also, the Big 10 has won the last 3 National Championships by a comfortable margin. Some players also have an opinion on the recent success of the Big 10: "I feel like they've taken it the last few years," Michigan linebacker Jaishawn Barham said of the Big Ten. "It's running the ball. The transfer portal played a little bit of a role in it, just getting more guys into the Big Ten."

Finally, even though these conferences are the best of the best, there is always a rough stretch. For example, last year the SEC had an unexpected 8-7 bowl game record and was 1-5 head-to-head against Big 10 Teams. Also in the 2003 regular season showed a lack of talent with many teams with a losing record following Mississippi State which had a 2-10 season. Although these numbers are bad you have to keep in mind that the SEC plays each other multiple times so it is likely that thy beat up on one another. However, the Big 10 has also had their struggles, like the disaster of 2011 when they were 6-7 in bowl games! They have also had very inconsistent teams such as Northwestern, who would have a good season and follow it up with a flop.
In conclusion, both of these conferences have proved themselves time and time again. From the intensity and repetitive competition in the SEC. To the fast growing power and strength of the Big 10. Although these conferences stand out from the others, it is not possible to choose one over the other. They each have a weak spot and also a strong suit. To close it off, these conferences have proved their worth and are widely considered the best.
