“We are Edgewood! We are Edgewood!” The Edgewood Junior High School Colts had their first Cheer competition on Saturday, September 26th. They have been preparing all summer for this competition and were looking to be very successful. Let's see how they did and what the practice and preparations consisted of.
One of the Stunts
Practices consisted of getting the music for the routine, learning counts, stunts, and much, much more. In the first part of the routine, they do a cheer that gets the crowd hyped up and loud. This cheer has stunts in it, and all of the girls use their loud voices, getting the energy through the roof. Next, the music starts, and the routine is filled with tumbling, such as back handsprings, back tucks, and more. Jumps, which include double toe touches, and stunts include full ups, switch-ups, and much more. It is also filled with multiple different aspects to get the crowd excited and hyped. At the end of the routine, these girls are exhausted. Although the routine is only around 3 minutes, these ladies worked their butts off and brought so much energy and power. These girls have worked so hard to get ready for this routine; let's see how they did!
The Edgewood Junior High Colts traveled to Mount Vernon this past weekend to compete against Fishers, Mt. Vernon, and many other teams. Our Colts got 3rd in the HCCA traditional Medium Division. 1st place in this category was Mount Vernon Middle School, and 2nd place was Fishers Junior High School. Although your Colts didn't get first place, they still hit zero, which means having no mistakes in their routine, and did so incredibly well for this being their very first cheer competition of the season. They have many more competitions coming up in the months that follow and will continue to practice and get better and better at what they do. Harper Purvis, a student at Edgewood and on both the competition team and regular cheer team, says, “I am looking forward to doing more comps and getting better throughout the season”

Edgewood High School also went to Mount Vernon; they did very well and are very excited for their season ahead. Edgewood cheer coaches state, “We are very proud of our high schoolers and can't wait to see what they accomplish this season. We have many more competitions and are very excited.” The high school should be very proud of itself and should be very excited. The high school also just recently had its Homecoming game against South Putnam; if you want to read more about that, check out this article by Emily Adams and Elizabeth Winkler: Edgewood Homecoming Football Game Against South Putnam.
In conclusion, this Edgewood Colts cheer team did so well and should be very, very proud of their accomplishments. They are hoping for a successful season. Audrey Clark, an Edgewood student and member of the competition and regular cheer team, states, “I would say the first cheer competition went well. We hit all of our stunts, but there is definitely room for improvement.” Their next competition is on Saturday, October 24th! Let’s wish them luck as they compete through the season!
