From the first serve of the season to the last whistle blown, the Edgewood girls volleyball team showed two things: perseverance and dedication throughout the entire season. Edgewood volleyball wrapped up their season on Sunday, October 5th. The 8th grade team went all the way to WIC and County! Both 7th and 8th graders had great seasons!
8th graders had a very important season last year; the girls were so close to being undefeated and were county champions! And they were determined to keep the title. The 8th grade team included: Ruby Bettis, Andi Beckman, Delaney Hayden, Henley Hill, Koeyn Hulbert, Molly Hudson, Cailey Perry, Brooklynn Price, Lilah Siegelin, and Kinley Wright. The girls ended the season with an amazing record of 18-4. No matter what happened, the girls were there for each other; they have a “special bond.” Henley Hill states, “We are all friends outside of school, so playing on the same team helps out a lot.”Almost all of the girls will continue to play volleyball for club, and they will in high school. Overall, everyone is very proud of our 8th graders, and we are sad to let them go, but we can’t wait to see what they will do in the future!
Throughout the season, these 7th graders have found more and more ways to improve, while having to adjust in many ways due to their first year playing. 7th grade Coach Stevie Chandler states, “I'm so proud of all the girls and their flexibility.” This season, the 7th graders worked on communication, teamwork, and really focusing on being a true team. The 7th grade players consist of Harper Sims, Ziva Lirot, Katya Edgeworth, Evelyn Bowlen, Elle Minderman, Mia Belaiv, Cora Daugherty, Janie Porter, Brystol Moore, and Avalyn Hines. Elle Minderman says, “Our chemistry grew over the course of the year and helped us in games.” This shows the hard work these girls put into their sport over the course of this season. Congrats to the girls on such an amazing season, and we are all looking forward to seeing this team play in the upcoming season.
Something that is so important to teams and coaches is the bond of the team. Every season you get closer and closer to teammates, whether they are old or new. The girls said that the bus rides were so fun, and could easily be one of the best parts of the games. While some say that their bond helped with how they played, and others say that it was more helpful for the before and after games, they can all agree that being a team affects every aspect. At the end of the day, this bond that is made over time will always make a season unforgettable.
In conclusion, the girls have improved in so many ways and are looking forward to their upcoming seasons. They have created such an important bond over this last season, making it one to remember. Although we are sad to let our current 8th graders go, we are extremely excited to see what talent the 7th graders can bring to this next season. We are also looking forward to what the upcoming 8th graders can bring to the table. Overall, this volleyball season has been a great learning experience for all the girls.
