Investigate: How can I make an object on the floor go the farthest?

Talk about:

    • If you want to make an object move, what do you need to do?

    • If you want to make it move farther, what can you do differently?

    • How far will an object go if you give it a small push?

    • How far will it go if you give it a hard push?

Try pushing different objects with the same amount of push. Do they all go the same distance? If you push the same object on a different surface (a wood floor, carpeted floor, sidewalk, or grass), how does it move differently? If you want the same object to go the same distance on two different surfaces, what do you have to do differently?

Talk about:

    • What patterns did you observe?

    • What new questions do you have?

Challenge: Can some objects move with no help from humans? How do they move? What is moving them?
