Week 2: 4/20-24

This week's essential questions are:

Day One

Influence can come from many places. It can be internal (values, beliefs) or external (friends, family, social media, environment). The assigned article will address the external influence of social media on financial decision making.

This article can be adjusted to your appropriate reading level and can also be read in Spanish.

  1. Please read the article through once.

  2. Read the article a second time, writing down any words and phrases that emphasize the article's main idea.

  3. Respond to the writing prompt in complete sentences.

  4. Answer the quiz questions.

Day Two

This lesson will walk you through a model for analyzing influences. You will explore internal and external influences and you will differentiate between positive and negative influences.


  1. Watch the video, taking note of the "code of honor" concept.

  2. Review the "Core Values List" and select 3-5 values that resonate with you.

  3. Open the "Code of Honor" document to create your own. The first column (in gray) is an example of how you might complete the activity; you are responsible for completing the second column. To seen an additional model, go to 4:45 in the video.

Day Three

In your first two activities, you addressed both internal (values) and external (social media, peers) influences. In this activity, you will review those concepts and learn a model for analyzing influences.

  1. Log in to Kahoot using Clever.

  2. Follow the link.

  3. Click: "Play as a Guest."

  4. Complete the activity, taking your time to view the videos and slides.

Day Four

In this lesson, you will explore the experiences and emotions of people dealing with drugs and alcohol.


This is the longest lesson for this week (~50 min). Take breaks as appropriate but leave the lesson open in a tab to save your progress.

  1. Log in to Nearpod using Clever.

  2. Open the Nearpod link.

  3. Work your way through the lesson, pausing at the Class Discussion slide [slide 21].

  4. Open the Flipgrid link and record a brief video (1:00-1:30) answering the Class Discussion prompts.

  5. Resume and complete the Nearpod lesson.

Day Five

You've made it to your final performance task!


On this quiz, you will be tasked with knowing: the model for analyzing influences, the differences between internal and external influences, and how to differentiate between positive and negative influences.

  2. Complete the quiz, taking your time and doing your best.
