Health Lessons Overview

Monday

Read through the Google Slideshow and complete the following:

1) Reflect on: A time when you were trying to listen to someone, but you were distracted. What distracted you? What happened as a result of being distracted?

2) Read the Newsela article linked in the slides

3) Reflect on: During this period of isolation, how could stress or other big emotions impact a person’s nonverbal communication, including their body language and eye contact? What specific steps can a person take to avoid miscommunication with others during this period of increased stress? Answer at least one of the questions and use at least one detail from the Newsela article to backup your answer.

Tuesday

After you have finished reviewing the Day 2 Presentation, complete the Communication: Reflective Listening Google Document linked here.

Wednesday

Today we will be learning about the components of, the purpose of and how to create I-Messages. This form of communication is extremely useful in helping to avoid conflicts and work towards compromise and negotiation.


INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Review the Google Slides and watch the video in the slides.

2. Complete the Google Form.

3. Practice sing I-Messages with 3 different people in the next 3 days.

4. Explain to a family member what I-messages are and why they are important.

5. Reflect on: Your friend takes your pencil pouch for their class after lunch. You get to your locker and realize it is gone, but need to go to class. Later after school, you see your friend putting your pencil pouch away. You want to tell them how the afternoon felt for you and you want to make sure this does not happen again. Write two I-statements you can say to your friend so this does not happen again.

Thursday

There is nothing to turn in here or videos to watch. Simply review the slides. When prompted to think about passive, aggressive and assertive responses, just think about your own response to yourself or jot down notes in a notebook with pen and paper. Then, complete the google doc linked here.
