1. Watch the following video Columbus Video
2. Answer these questions
What was the mood of this video? How did the makers of this video show Columbus as a hero? Is this video based on fact, opinion, or both? What would happen to N. America if Columbus doesn't make this discovery?
3. Watch the following video The Real Columbus
To better understand what Columbus' intention were, take a look at the attached file called "Columbus's Journal". You can find it at the bottom of the page. These are his own words, letters he wrote. I have underlined and bolded some of the key lines.
4. Answer the following questions
What was the purpose of Columbus's trip to the New World?
How did Columbus's intentions change after arriving in the New World?
What good has come from Columbus's exploration of the New World?
Given everything that you have seen, is Columbus a hero or a villain
Activity: Your task is to decide your opinion. Is Columbus a hero, or is Columbus a villain? You must pick one or the other...no fence riding and saying both. Remember to consider all of the evidence from the videos. You must think about what is fact, and what is likely opinion. To show the rest of the world (i.e. me) what your opinion is, you must use Pic Collage to make a poster sharing your opinion...with proof. If you feel that Columbus was a villain...why? What evidence from the videos that you watched prove your opinion? If you feel he was a hero...why? Same thing, what evidence proves it? You need AT LEAST three pieces of evidence to prove your point. You also need to include a picture of Columbus that helps support your opinion. Be creative. Once you are done with your Pic Collage, please screen shot it and email it to me. Make sure to put your block # in the subject line.
This will be due by class on Monday.
