Thomas Jefferson did a great many things in his life, but in 1803 he made a purchase on behalf of the the United States of America that would double the size of the country and work towards spreading the land holdings of the United States from ocean to ocean. This chunk of land is very much an important piece for us here in Iowa, as our state is located ENTIRELY inside this large land purchase. Today we will establish some background about the land purchase, the explorers, and what it all means for the United States. Follow the directions below to get yourself started.

Get as far as you can.
Next, we will take an introspective look at what we would want to bring along with us.
Take a minute to think about what you would want to bring with you on a trip that will last over a year. Remember, you will have to carry all of it, you will not have electricity, and you won't be able to stop for additional supplies. First, make a list of 5 things you would bring. Then, when the teacher says so, talk with your table to come up with a list of the ten most important items you would bring. Then, if there's time, you'll work with the class to make one list. To prove that you were part of the activity you will need to turn in your list of 5 to Google Classroom.
Now that we've made a list...let's see what the Expedition brought for themselves?
