Emails should be professional and concise (short). You need to convey information clearly and tell the person exactly what you're looking for. A successful email will include:
-Your name and what organization you're with (7th grade at New Hampton Middle School)
-What you are working on (school project that is focused on ......... (your specific topic)
-What you would like to talk to them about (Be fairly specific. Do not just say, "we want to talk to you about 9-11" or we want to ask you about that")
-When are you available and how will you conduct the interview (phone, Zoom, email, etc)
An email might look like this:
Dear Mrs. Blythe,
My name is Mr. Rude and my partner and I are from New Hampton Middle School in Iowa. We are currently working on a project where we are explaining how cell phone systems changed due to the 9/11 attacks. We would like to request an interview with you so we can learn more about why cellular systems had to become more redundant. We are available Monday-Friday from 10:30am-11:30am CT and are able to connect via telephone or Zoom. If timing will be an issue, could we send an email with some questions for you to answer at your convenience? Thank you for very much for your time and we look forward to hearing from you.
Mr. Rude
