If slavery is bad, then why did it exist in the United States? What is it's purpose?
Why does slavery exist in the South?
Is it possible that the North benefited from slavery as well? Does this mean the North allowed slavery? Was the North in favor of slavery?

2. Let's look at what was written about slaves by the people that lived during that time.
Below are some links to letters, newspapers, and interviews with slaves. Choose three websites to look at 4 documents related to slavery. See what kinds of stories you can find. Please have one to share with the class.
