Obviously, the "Shot Heard 'Round the World" is metaphorical, not literal. However, the fact that we don't know for sure who shot first is quite troubling. So, with that, here is your task today...SOLVE THE MYSTERY.

Brief overview of the Lexington and Concord incidents
1. Read the PDF marked Gage's orders to the British Army. These are literally the orders (or directions) that were given to the leader of the British Army group that was going to Lexington and Concord. This will give you an idea of what the British soldiers were supposed to do.
2. Read the other first hand accounts listed below. Each comes from a different point of view.
3. Determine which side (British or Colonists) fired the first shot, based on the stories that you read. You will need to write out your decision in a paragraph and you will have to explain what evidence you are basing your decision on. You make work in pairs, and please type your paragraph response and submit it to me with both people's names.
