3. The Reasons for a Colony

Consider these questions. Write down your answers. You may write them on paper or digitally. Take a picture or screenshot and turn them in via Google Classroom.

1. What is a colony?

2. What factors may have played a role in why the certain colonies  ended up in the locations they did?

3. From a trade standpoint, what purpose does a colony have? (What is it meant to do? Think MONEY.)

4. Why would people living in Europe want to leave their homes to come to the New World to start or join a colony?

We will discuss these as a class in a few minutes...so be prepared to talk about them.

        Now, you need to open the chart that is linked in Google Classroom. It should have made your own copy, but if it didn't, make your own copy. You will use that to fill out who founded the colonies and why. In some cases it was one person that founded the colony. In other cases, it was a group of people. The link below offers SOME help. You may (WILL) need to use your Google powers to find the rest.
