Founded in 1936, National Wildlife Federation (NWF) is America’s largest conservation and education organization, with a long history of providing environmentally focused education programs. NWF operates from offices across the country, with our headquarters in Reston, Virginia; a National Advocacy Center in Washington, D.C. ; and 7 regional centers, including a Northeast field office in New York City. NWF is comprised of 52 state and territory affiliates and engages 6.4 million members and supporters all working to fulfill NWF’s mission of uniting all Americans to ensure that wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world.


The National Wildlife Federation in New York City manages the Resilient Schools Consortium (RiSC) - a climate and resilience education program for middle and high school students. NWF is pleased to partner with the NYC Department of Education’s Office of Community Schools on its Schools of Resilience project, to help raise awareness about climate change risks, climate impacts, and climate actions that increase social and ecological resilience.



NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM) helps New Yorkers before, during, and after emergencies through preparedness, education, and response. The agency is responsible for coordinating citywide emergency planning and response for all types and scales of emergencies, from coastal storms to extreme winter weather. It is staffed by more than 200 dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise who work directly with local communities and other city agencies to build more prepared and resilient neighborhoods.



The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) works to enrich the environment and protect public health for all New Yorkers by providing high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP's Education Office provides free education programs and resources for pre-K - 12th grade students and educators on NYC's drinking water and wastewater treatment systems, storm water management and green infrastructure, harbor water quality, climate change, and stewardship. The DOE Office of Sustainability drives transformative change in all NYC schools through resources and programs that increase efficiency of facilities, address environmental impacts, and aim to provide all stakeholders with opportunities for action.

Education is integral to our work to deliver purposeful and comprehensive stakeholder engagement, greater climate resiliency, expanded climate literacy, and opportunities for student empowerment to better ensure social equity and a healthy environment for all generations.

The Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice strives to adapt New York City to the unprecedented challenge of climate change, creating a more resilient, equitable and vibrant city for the New Yorkers of today and generations to come.

Mission

Through science-based analysis, policy and program development, and capacity building, the office leads the City’s efforts to ensure that New York City is ready to withstand and emerge stronger from the multiple impacts of climate change in the near- and long-term.

Core Functions

Science-Based Analysis: identifies, translates and applies the best-available climate science and analysis to develop its policies, programs, capital projects, and public engagements.

Policy and Program Development: develops innovative policy and programmatic solutions to address New York City’s existing resiliency needs and to advance a strategic vision for a more resilient, equitable, and vibrant future.

Capacity Building: creates tools, leads collaboration across sectors, and builds capacity to enable public agencies, businesses, community organizations, and New Yorkers alike to take climate-smart adaptation measures.
