Getting Started with the NYC Community Schools Strategy

This toolkit provides the basics of the NYC Community Schools Strategy so that the processes and practices can be implemented in any school, regardless of funding or status. Look through this toolkit to find best practices around collaborative planning, strategic resource allocation, and community-based partnerships. Use these resources to help your school offer equitable opportunities to students and families so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

The Community Schools Strategy is aligned with Chancellor Carranza’s priority to advance equity now, and provides a framework for schools to address those inequities.

Every school can implement the collaborative leadership and practice that is the foundation of the Community School strategy by:

    • embedding community partnerships into their Comprehensive Education Plans

    • partnering with communities to ensure allocation of resources to drive equitable outcomes that support the whole child

    • aligning instruction with out-of-school offerings to support student learning

The "Community Schools: A Guide for Getting Started" offers additional ideas and resources that any school can use to implement the Community School strategy.
