OCS Research Advisory Council

The Office of Community Schools has initiated research studies of the NYC Community Schools Initiative in an effort to reflect on best practices and optimize impact on student outcomes. Currently, OCS has contracted RAND to evaluate the NYC Community School initiative. The RAND evaluation will culminate in an implementation study in 2017 and an impact study in 2018.

To supports its research and evaluation efforts, OCS has invited national experts to serve on a NYC Community Schools Research Advisory Council. Research Advisory Council members are comprised of established researchers in the field of community development, urban youth, education and chronic absenteeism.

Research Advisory Council members:

o Serve as advisors to OCS and will weigh in on decisions related to research and continuous improvement efforts.

o Share knowledge about best practices and standards around quality assurance and measurement.

o Validate instruments used to assess the efficacy of Community School efforts in New York City.
