Josh Burker has published a book - The Invent to Learn Guide to Fun / Classroom Technology Projects, Constructing Modern Knowledge Press, Torrance, CA, 2015. In his book, Burker devotes a chapter on making Glowdoodlers, electronic colored light pens. Burker gives two methods for designing LED Glowdoodlers.

Adobe Illustrator Template for both LED Light Pens - these templates have been pre-cut and are available for you to begin work immediately.

After you make two styles of Glowdoodlers, you need to install free software available for download at lightpaintlive.com. This software treats your laptop's camera as a long exposure camera to capture light from your Glowdoodler.

Design Challenge

• Build two LED Electronic Pens following the Burker methods - make sure you make two separate colors....one with a 3 mm LED and one with a 5 mm LED
• Create a Glowdoodler Art Panel (color-printed screenshots of your best work) for display in a Public Bulletin Board in the 300 Building
• Document your work in a Blog Post

• Pictures of your light pens (Copper Tape and Wired) - 0, 5 or 10 pints
• Pictures of your best screen capture images (art work) - best two - 0, 5 or 10 points
• Reflection - What you learned on this project (tell me something you did not know) - 0, 5 or 10 points
• Upload your two best light paintings along with images of your light pens and a picture of you with your light pens to this Shared Google Drive Folder - 0, 5, 10 or 20 points
