Located within the city of Parkland is a historic Tequesta Indian burial mound known as the Margate-Blount archeological site. It was discovered by Bruce Blount, the founder and first mayor of Parkland in 1959 when he was bulldozing the land for what was to become the first home sites. Blount uncovered a tomb full of skeletons with 49 full and partial skeletal remains found at the site.
The Parkland Historical Society and Parkland Friends of the Library organizations building a city park with museum exhibits at the site. The Parkland Historical Society asked North Broward students to make 3D printed replicas of the historical artifacts. Students took a field trip to Broward College (Achieves) and History Miami Museum where four of the artifacts excavated from the Margate Blount archaeological site are kept. Students photographed the artifacts and then made 3D models of the artifacts that will become part of the museum exhibits in Parkland.
