Make a 3D Bust of your favorite teacher...No simple task
The key element is cloud-based software that converts 50-70 images of your subject into a 3D model.
This used to be a lot easier. The cloud-based software that made the 3D model from multiple photo images was available as a free download as. d.
The 3D model from multiple photos is available from Autodesk as ReCap 360 (Windows only). Both of the Laser PC Loaders in the Fab Lab are windows systems that have Autodesk Recap Installed. You will need to train yourself on using a new software tool on a foreign PC operating system (for most of you). Other tools and plug-ins to convert 2D images to 3D models are described in the web-based article 15 Tools to Instantly Convert 2d Images to 3d Ones | 2018 Edition
You will also need a 3D surface manipulation tool to smooth and sculpt the 3D model. Many previous students have used Meshmixer to finish their 3D Bust. Jacob Gordon ('18) prepared a 12-minute video giving tips on how to take photos and how to use Meshmixer to scrub your 3D model (see below)
After you have mastered making a 3D bust, then turn your favorite teacher into a superhero. See Final Project Report by Zach Bass for do(s) and don't(s)
Deliverable:
Write your own web post describing your experience. It is suggested that you practice with a friend before asking your favorite teacher to pose for 50-70 photos.
