At Forres Academy we have committed to the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) and are on our journey towards achieving their "SILVER" accreditation.
This award puts the rights of the child at the centre of the work that we do as a school. The RRSA recognises achievement in putting the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of the schools planning, policies, practice and ethos.
There are various criteria that we must meet to ensure that we receive our next accreditation. We currently have a personalised action plan created by pupils and staff to ensure that we are covering each of the 3 strands below.
Equalities club meets every Monday at lunch time in the library.
Everyone is welcome, come along and join us. :-)
We have a dedicated steering group of pupils who works with staff to create action plans in order for us to achieve Silver status.
The group meets every Monday at lunch time in the libary and is more of an "Equalities Club" and new members are always welcome.
You don't have to commit to this every week as there are so many great clubs and activities to take part in, but the door is always open and its a great chance to get your voice on the table and take the opportunity to help us drive forward lots of school improvement priorities.
Our priorities are in line with Unicef Guidance below:
Your school is explicitly embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in its policy, practice and culture.
You are promoting knowledge and understanding of the Convention throughout your school community.
You are putting into action and developing the plans outlined on your Action Plan for Silver, which you submitted to achieve Bronze: Rights Committed.
You are beginning to see the positive impact of these actions on children and young people, staff, and on the school’s ethos, practice and environment.
Children and young people are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and children’s rights, both locally and globally.
Progress towards Silver tends to happen organically and every school will work in a slightly different way. What you are aiming for is:
Teaching and Learning about rights: for the whole school community through training, curriculum, assemblies, topics, focus days/weeks, displays.
Teaching and Learning through rights: by modelling rights respecting language and attitudes, and making strategic decisions that involve students.
Being ambassadors for the rights of others: developing as rights respecting citizens.
