For students on our National 5 pathway the initial focus is achieving  National 4 Applications of Mathematics certification which will help to identify students who feel stronger in the applied mathematics style of questioning which involves a lot more  close reading and data extraction.

Once Applications of Mathematics has been achieved at National 4 level then the focus moves onto capturing units for National 4 Mathematics with the goal of achieving  National 4 by the end of the year. The units in National 4 are:

• Numeracy

• Expressions & Formulae

• Relationships

• Added Value Unit

Once National 4 has been achieved then work begins on preparing for National 5 level mathematics with  aims to capture National  5 Numeracy . The year ends with 5th level assessments to track progress into the National 5/National 5 Applications course and ensure that crucial skills have been achieved to set our students up for the best chance of success in S4.

This method of course delivery sets up a student to undertake Higher/Higher Applications of Mathematics in senior phase should they so choose.
