The Senior Phase National 5 Applications of Mathematics course takes a single year approach to achieving a National 5 level certificate.
The course begins with a focus on refreshing the numeracy skills required to operate at a National 5 level. This will provide students with the confidence to be able to perform numeracy based questions with and without a calculator in their exam.
The 2nd unit brings its focus onto measure and geometry looking at applied uses for mathematics relation to shape and measure.
The 3rd unit brings its focus onto finance and statistics and how money relates to mathematics, such as how taxation and loans work. The statistics teach students how to make meaningful interpretations of data, and analyse trends/properties of datasets.
The course is finalised with an exam consisting of two papers. Paper 1 is a non-calculator exam, and Paper 2 is a calculator permitted exam.
The National 5 Applications of Mathematics units are:
Numeracy
Geometry and Measure
