SAFETY CODE
The list below gives an overview of the expectations of pupils who are going to be working in the Design and Technology Department in Forres Academy.
It is important that pupils understand the risks involved when working in workshop environments and we all follow the safety rules set out for them.
Pupils have been introduced to the workshop environment and been given a lesson on Safety. Please sign below to indicate that you have read and agree to these working practices.
DRESS CODE
Always wear your goggles
Always wear an apron to protect your clothes.
Always remove jackets and other outdoor clothes, hoodies and dangling jewelry.
Tuck in your tie.
Always tie back long hair.
Wear sensible shoes.
HEALTHY WORKING PRACTICE
Always wash your hands at the end of a lesson.
Never blow away dust - use the extraction system.
BEHAVIOUR
Listen carefully to the teacher - the workshop is a noisy environment to work in.
Do not rush around, push or caper.
Do not touch or use a tool or machine unless you have been shown what to do.
Do not try to rush through the work.
Always follow instructions carefully. Ask if you are unsure.
MACHINERY
Never use a machine unless your teacher has shown you how to operate it and given you permission during that lesson.
Know where the emergency stop button is.
Always wear goggles.
One person only at each machine.
Always use the safety guards.
Always use the dust extraction.
Think carefully about how and where to hold the material to keep your hands away from moving parts.
