TQI Signing Day - Seeking Volunteers to help with National Signing Days in Local High Schools
Hello Faculty and Staff! Teacher Quality Institute is sponsoring a "Signing Day" for all high school seniors in our service area who are coming to Murray State in the Fall to major in Education. We will be going to 25 area high schools to take pictures of seniors signing their "letter of intent" to be an education major at MSU. We will then have those pictures published in their local papers, social media, etc. Our goal is to promote how important future educators are to us and to the future of the local school districts.
Do you have ties to any of our service-area high schools? Would you be willing to be the MSU representative to go to a high school to represent MSU on signing day? We are planning this event for Tuesday, May 2nd, which is the National Ed Rising Signing Day, but if that day doesn't work for you, we can try to schedule for another day! We have a grant from the Dean's Office to pay for your mileage from MSU to the school and back.
Please contact Debbie Bushart at dbushart@murraystate.edu or 270-809-3188 if you are willing to help.
REA 405 students read aloud from a script that has been adapted from a favorite children’s book to improve instruction in fluency and expression. Dr. Chhanda Islam said that reader’s theater has been found effective not only for language arts but for social studies as well. Performing stories based on another culture is one of the best ways for students to become interested in and familiar with the other culture.

We applaud each of you for your outstanding contributions and appreciate all that you do for COEHS!
To finish up the month of March, we want to finally highlight National Reading Month! Dr. Christina Grant, professor, Kentucky Reading Project Co-Director, and Alpha Upsilon Alpha Literacy Honors Society Faculty Advisor, took the time to share her thoughts on her passion for promoting literacy. She graciously provided this week's featured quote, which you can see below!
"'Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.' ~Malala Yousafzai.
Literacy can be life. It allows everyone to be a large part of our society. As a literacy professor, I try to provide the tools and teaching strategies to pre- and in-service teachers so they can equip their own readers. Alpha Upsilon Alpha Literacy Honors Society/Reading Club, which I am the faculty advisor for, also continues this theme. We collaborate often with the Calloway County Public Library, as well as our local Rotary Club, to emphasize literacy with all. If you know of anyone fitting for our Reading Club, please reach out to me at cgrant4@murraystate.edu. We would love more members that love to use literature with their students/clients/ members of the community. We also give out a free book to everyone that attends the monthly meeting."
-Dr. Christina Grant
