CLASSROOM UPDATES
Josie Howard, a REA 405 practicum student, incorporated Reader's Theater into Mrs. Shannon Chiles' Ist grade classroom at Murray Elementary
The students of REA 405/Children's Literature class performed a script adapted from fables, fairy tales, and historical fictions. A discussion was held regarding the importance of reader's theater in increasing comprehension.
While on practicum, Josie Howard shared her five-day process for staging a reader's theater presentation in Mrs. Shannon Chiles' classroom. Children felt comfortable in the performance mode because Josie took the time to prepare them. At home with their parents, children practice reading their lines with expression, pacing, and intonation. Mrs. Chiles noted that even struggling readers were interested in performing in front of the class.
Murray Elementary School's Principal complimented Dr. Islam on the outstanding performance of her practicum students.
