Classroom Updates

Update from Dr. Chhanda Islam regarding her REA 405/Children's Literature for Early and Developing Readers course

Quizlet.com was integrated into classroom activities for quizzes, review a session and as a supplement to traditional instruction.

It was exciting to see a student who made a perfect score and expressed her excitement to the class.

REA 405 includes interactive games and quizzes that make learning fun and engaging, helping students retain information more effectively.

Faculty Updates

Dr. Abbie Morris and Dr. Stephanie Sullivan had an article published in the Educational Research Quarterly titled "Impacts of Flexible Learning Environments." The publication examines how a district can be flexible with learning options but also strategic with how to best achieve student learning gains. According to the article, " When leaders can convey a message of best practices applicable in a variety of modalities, they are supporting ...resilient pedagogy. Masland emphasized the need for schools to design technology-enhanced lessons and courses that are mode-agnostic and student-centered."

SHOUT-OUTS

Shout-Out to Claire Layne from Dean Dave Whaley

This is a "shout out" to Claire Layne for her exemplary efforts in taking over many of the Finance, Business, and Administrative responsibilities since Tamela Darnell left.  Much of the work is new to Claire, but she is tenacious about tracking down the correct answers to the riddles we sometimes face in the Dean's office.  We are grateful to Claire for this work, which is on top of her regular workload as an Administrative Assistant II.

To send your own shout-out, click on the button below to fill out the form. It's a great way to show colleagues how awesome they are!

It will appear in the Midweek Round-Up as well as on the Faculty and Staff Shout-Out Board by the Dean's Office! Be sure to check it out when you're walking by!

Huddle Meeting

Friday, September 6

The CoEHS is committed to ensuring that Teacher Education produces skilled and highly qualified teachers upon graduation. On Friday, September 6th, faculty and staff from the CoEHS and CHFA met in the Multipurpose Room and on Zoom to immerse themselves in data spreadsheets and focused conversation to glean an understanding of how teacher candidates perform on nationally-normed exams, student teaching experiences, and various other data points, as well as how our graduates are performing in the profession. The intention of these "Huddle" experiences is to, as a collective, assess both strengths and areas for improvement with regards to the teacher education curriculum and develop action steps to promote continuous improvement and positive student outcomes.

Cultural Leadership Academy Graduation

Friday, September 6

Dr. Teresa Clark and Dr. Landon Clark hosted the 9th Annual Cultural Leadership Academy at the Paducah Regional Campus.

23 years ago today, the United States suffered a tremendous loss of loved ones in the September 11 terrorist attacks. Nearly 3,000 people were killed when hijackers crashed planes into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania. It is with our deepest admiration and respect that today we remember the victims, their families and the first responders who met the tragedy and its aftermath with courage and strength.

The mission of the College of Education and Human Services is to prepare future leaders, advocates, and practitioners through authentic, engaging, and student-centered academic programs for successful careers that positively impact communities.
