Dr. Chhanda Islam has participated in the International Literacy Association's Awards & Grants program for the last two years. Among the finalists, the committee recognized Barbara Wasik and Annemarie Hindman from Temple University for their deserving achievements. The Professional Collaborator Award recognizes an ongoing professional collaboration between two or more people who regularly contribute to the professional knowledge base of literacy educators.
An article written by Dr. Chhanda Islam titled Using Technology to Help Struggling Readers Improve Their Reading Outcomes: Applications to Support K-12 Teachers and Teaching was published in the International Journal of Language and Linguistics.
The journal Education and Development has elected Dr. Chhanda Islam to its board of editors. Education and Development is a prestigious international open-access peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and discourse in the field of education. The journals will be published by British Reading Oasis and Discovery Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 15838465.

Classroom Response Kit Project 2024
Thank you to Dr. John Clayton’s General Studies class at the Governor’s Scholars Program at Murray State University. These students packed 500 classroom response kits that will be sent across the Commonwealth.
Murray State graduates and current students in the Library Media Program showed up for a wonderful professional development day in Owensboro at Apollo High School on July 9th. The Kentucky Association of School Librarians (KASL) held their annual Summer Refresher, hosted by Murray State graduate Jonathan Paff, librarian at Apollo High School. One picture is of all the attendees who completed their coursework and Murray and the second picture is of current and former students of Terri's. Terri presented three sessions at the conference.
Murray State University has announced the establishment of the Lois McClure Kemp Memorial Scholarship Endowment in Family Consumer Sciences, funded by gifts to the Murray State University Foundation by her daughters Jana Kemp and Mary Kemp Murray, along with other family members and friends. The scholarship will assist undergraduate students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences at Murray State.
