Wafer paper, also referred to as rice paper, is edible white paper to use on cakes, candy or cookies. This item is Kosher, and made with potato starch, water and vegetable oil. It can also be cut into various shapes and designs by hand or using an electronic cutter.

The history of wafer paper is many centuries old. During the Renaissance, wafer paper was served as a dessert. It was a luxury foodstuff that only the aristocracy and upper middle classes could afford. Later, wafer paper became associated with religious significance, symbolizing the celebration of the Eucharist.

Some wafer papers on the market are made with wheat flour. Wafer papers made in Asia are usually made with rice flour. Inkedibles wafer paper is made in the European Union, and is made from potato starch which keeps the printed edible image longer.
