GELLI ARTS® PRINTING PLATES
Gelli Arts® gel printing plates look and feel like gelatin, but are durable, reusable and store at room temperature. Made of polymer and mineral oil, they are easy to clean and always ready for printing. While acrylic paints are recommended to be used with the Gelli plates, printmaking inks, oil-based paints, fabric paints, gouaches, and dyes and rubber stamp inks can be used. Watercolors may be used, but may require some experimentation for successful results.
Many types of paper are can be used for Gelli® printing, varying from from computer paper to card stock to printmaking paper. Cardstock is good for an economical heavy paper. Bristol is another great choice. Rives BFK or Rising Stonehenge are excellent printmaking papers for fine prints. For collage, deli paper (dry waxed paper) is useful for its thin, translucent properties. A smooth-surfaced paper gives a more detailed print. Coated papers can damage the plates and are not recommended.
