Term 3 | Week 11
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day: teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”
- Maimonides.
Dear parents,
How to fish, how to drive, how to cook - is as much education as how to read, how to write and how to compute. How to care, how to give and how to receive is also education. Combining the formal and informal aspects of learning and preparing the pupil to face life better - is what we are all about. And to that end, we are going to focus on valuable transferable skills for the remaining days of the term - after the exams. Besides the four graduating classes prepping for their respective graduation ceremonies (Reception and CP6 on Thursday 20th June and LS3 and IGCSE2/Alevel on Friday 21st June), setting the tone for the next academic session through some engaging activities in class, would be the key driver.
Talking of key enablers, the PTCs scheduled for 27th and 28th of June need to be attended by every parent - because the most crucial benefit of tests and examinations is the diagnostic feedback that follows. What did the student do well? What needs improvement? What were the gaps? How to bridge them? What strategies would help most? All of this will be disseminated by the teachers of your children during the PTCs. Request you to look beyond the scores - into the feedback and suggested measures for improvement.
As we move closer to the end of this term, here are a few pointers towards what the new academic year starting in August will look like:
Separate short break and lunch break for primary and secondary, to avoid overcrowding.
Mentor time every morning for the first 20 minutes to accord exclusive attention to the wellness and pastoral care needs of each student.
Additional computers in the computer lab, to ensure every student in a given class gets to use a computer individually.
More smartboards in every block.
IGCSE and A level students will be mandated to bring laptops to class for tech enabled learning.
A set of new toilets in the CP blocks.
An equipped Sick Bay with trained first aiders.
An exclusive Art Studio.
Adequate availability of textbooks in the store.
An improved road.
The School Year Book.
Student Newsletter “The Acorn”.
A specialized training program for school teams in all major sports.
A School Choir and a school band.
Cambridge CheckPoint exams in CP6 and LS3.
University Placement support through CEEB and the BridgeU portal.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Program.
TEDx participation and training.

Warm regards,

Receiving exam results can be a moment of anxiety and anticipation. Whether you excelled or faced unexpected challenges, how you handle your results and feedback is crucial for your academic and personal growth. Here are some strategies to help learners and parents to navigate this important phase.
Reflect on Your Performance
Once you have your results, take time to reflect on your performance objectively. If you did well, consider what strategies and study habits contributed to your success. If your performance wasn’t as strong as you hoped, think about what might have gone wrong. Did you struggle with time management, misunderstand certain topics, or face anxiety during the exam? Identifying these factors can help you make improvements for the future.
Review Feedback Thoroughly
Feedback from teachers is invaluable. Carefully read through any comments or notes provided on your exam. Teachers often highlight specific areas where you excelled or need improvement. Understanding this feedback is crucial for recognizing your strengths and addressing your weaknesses. Don’t hesitate to ask your teachers for further clarification if needed.
Discuss Your Results
Talking about your results with someone you trust, such as a parent or teacher can provide support and additional perspective. They can offer encouragement, help you process your emotions, and provide practical advice on how to move forward.
Set New Goals
Based on your reflection and feedback, set new, realistic goals for yourself. These could be academic goals, such as improving in a particular subject, or personal goals, like developing better study habits or managing stress more effectively. Setting clear, achievable goals can provide motivation and direction for your future efforts.
Develop an Action Plan
Create a detailed action plan to achieve your new goals. If you need to improve in a specific subject, consider seeking extra help, such as joining a study group. Develop a study schedule that allows for consistent, focused study sessions. Incorporate techniques that worked well for you in the past and be open to trying new methods.
In summary, exam feedback serves as a compass guiding students towards continuous improvement and success. By embracing feedback, setting goals and taking action, students can transform exam results into stepping stones for future achievements.
We were thrilled to welcome FIFA President Mr. Gianni Infantino to Zambia.
It was a memorable day for the group of LOTS students who graced this historical occasion to give Mr. Infantino a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
Mr. Infantino thanked the students for their warm welcome and encouraged them to keep playing football, emphasizing its benefits for discipline, dedication and a healthy lifestyle.
This visit was an inspiration for all at LOTS, motivating our students to pursue their passion for football and excellence.
Here are some of the pictures from the event.
Nearly the end of the academic year. It has been a hectic week for the students as they sat for their examinations.
We are proud of our ever-shining Reception students who are bidding farewell to the Early Years and progressing to Cambridge Primary. And of our Cambridge Primary 6 students advancing to Lower Secondary. Parents of these stars are reminded to attend these memorable events. The graduation ceremonies will be held at the school on Thursday, 20th June 2024, from 8.30 to 9.00 (Reception) and 11:00 to 12:30 (CP6).
After Exam Program: To keep our students engaged and ready for the next grade, we have planned an educative and exciting program after the exams. The contact time remains the same.
End of Year Exams: The end-of-year exams are progressing well, and we anticipate impressive results. We encourage our students to continue working hard for the remaining subjects next week. Please remember that the exam period is still school time; hence, all students should be in school uniform and report on time.
For the next two weeks, the focus will be to prepare students for the next academic year. Important concepts will be revised that will help the students remember these transferable concepts. For example in mathematics, students will revise concepts of place value, fraction , solve word problems with various computations. Drawing diagrams, brainstorming ideas for new projects in different subjects, quizzes, spelling revisions, writing journals etc are things that will help the students in further developing their thinking skills, communication skills- speaking and listening skills.
It is very cold and the weather forecast says it will remain like this till the 16th of this Month. Hence, please ensure that your children are carrying their warm clothing with them even next week. Please remember to label their names and grades for easy identification.
The end of academic year examinations for students in Lower Secondary and IGCSE will be concluded on 18th June, 2024. After all the examinations are done normal lessons will resume and will be used to prepare students for the next academic year. These lessons must be treated seriously and all the students in the section should attend.
