Dear Parents,
The key happenings in this past week were the PTCs (Parent Teacher Conferences), the Independence Day celebrations, preparing for our school Annual Production, sending our debate teams to Capetown for the Pan African finals of the NDL (National Debate League), and of course, winding down for the mid term break.
After your support for the TEDx Conference, please support the School Annual Production “The Journey of US’ next. Remember it is being staged on Friday 7th November at 6 PM at the NIPA Conference Centre. Students right from Preschool (Early Years) up to Secondary School will be performing in a diverse but interconnected journey that will celebrate growth, culture, friendship and humanity. Come and see them dance, hear them sing, feel them emote - and celebrate them as they bask in the joy of being alive!
As we go into the mid term break, let us give our children love and space and time and an opportunity to sometimes just stare at the stars instead of the cellphone screen. Do not push them to be too busy. Let childhood breathe. Having said that, keeping in touch with some academic rigour, specially for Upper Secondary students, would be sensible.
Happy Holidays to our acorns and to you. See you back in school on Monday 27th October.
Warm regards
Shouquot Hussain
Head of School
As we enter the mid-term break, I hope our students take the opportunity to reflect on the feedback shared by teachers to the students in class and during the parent–teacher conferences.
Feedback is a powerful tool to help us recognize our strengths, identify areas for growth, and revise habits to improve in all aspects of learning.
I encourage students to use this break thoughtfully, recharge, and return ready to continue their journey of growth and excellence.
We wish to inform you that all the phones that were confiscated from students have now been returned. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding throughout this process.
We kindly remind all parents to ensure that students do not come to school with cell phones, as this remains against school policy.
Only students who use Yango or similar transport services for drop-off and pick-up will be permitted to bring their phones. Such phones must be handed in to the front desk upon arrival and collected at the end of the school day.
Your continued support in reinforcing this rule at home will help us maintain focus and discipline in our learning environment.
On Wednesday, 15th October 2025, our school joyfully celebrated Zambia’s Independence Day. The event was marked by vibrant colours, cultural displays, songs, dances, and speeches that reflected the true Zambian spirit.
We sincerely thank all parents and guardians for their wonderful support, especially for ensuring that the children came dressed in beautiful national colours. Their cheerful participation made the celebration lively and meaningful.
As we proceed into the mid-term break, we wish all our students a restful and enjoyable holiday. May they take this time to relax, spend quality moments with family, and return refreshed and ready for the next part of the term.
Theme: “Celebrating Our Freedom and Unity in Diversity”
On 15th October 2025, Lusaka Oaktree School proudly commemorated Zambia’s Independence Day under the theme “Celebrating Our Freedom and Unity in Diversity.”
Learners participated in a range of enriching activities, including short skits, speeches, wonderful and rousing songs, and traditional as well as contemporary dance performances. Aah, and a dance by teachers and non teaching staff that really brought the house down!
An awards ceremony was held to recognize outstanding performances in various categories:
• Best Dressed Hero: Izukanji Chila (as Kenneth Kaunda)
• Best Traditional Attire: Tamika Mpho Kumwenda (musisi)
• Best Traditional Dance: Saista
• Best Actor: Janelle Ncube
• Best Speech: Mbaweme Mutukuma
• Special Mention: EYD – Poem Performance
To conclude the day, the Student Council organized a series of fun and engaging games, fostering teamwork and camaraderie among learners.
The celebration promoted national pride, unity, and a deeper appreciation of Zambia’s rich cultural heritage. The school commends all learners for their creativity, enthusiasm, and exemplary participation.
After an impressive performance at the Lusaka Round held at UNICAF University in May, eight Lusaka Oaktree School learners, split into three teams, are proudly representing Zambia at the Pan African Junior Championship in Cape Town. They will compete against top debaters from across South Africa and Kenya in what promises to be an exciting and intellectually charged tournament.
The championship follows the British Parliamentary debate format, where participants engage with unprepared motions without access to gadgets. This format encourages quick thinking, creativity and collaboration as debaters tackle complex topics in real time.
The competition runs from 17th to 19th October, and we are confident our learners will showcase their skill, confidence and critical thinking on the Pan African stage.
We wish our teams the very best and look forward to the experiences, lessons and memories they will bring back home!
The Student Council has truly hit the ground running.
During this week’s Independence Day celebrations, Performing Arts Captain Tamika Mpho Kumwenda co-hosted the event with confidence and flair, while Sports Captain Rutendo Mazhandu and Justin Kaplilikisha helped coordinate the post celebration sports activities.
The Councils also held their first official meetings, where they discussed key areas of focus which included improving the canteen service, introducing fun and engaging alternatives for morning workouts, planning fundraising ventures for their end-of-year prom, and exploring community outreach initiatives.
Our Primary Student Council has also been hard at work brainstorming community projects centered on students, the wider community, and the environment. More details will be shared in the coming weeks.

Since the beginning of the term, participation from both students and staff has been consistently enthusiastic, creating a vibrant environment for learning, creativity, and teamwork beyond the classroom.
Over the weeks, students have had the opportunity to engage in a variety of clubs, including Chess, Drama & Theatre, Music & Choir, Debate & Public Speaking, STEM, Art & Design, Entrepreneurship, Red Cross, Wildlife & Scouts, and more. These clubs have provided learners with platforms to develop new skills, express creativity, collaborate with peers, and explore personal interests in meaningful ways.
