“God lies in the details"
-Ludwig Van Der Rohe
Dear Parents/Guardians,
At the end of every newsletter there always is the ‘key dates’ column. Please pay close attention to that. We have Annual Examinations starting from 9th June and finishing on 17th June. We have the respective Graduation Ceremonies on 23rd June and 24th June. We have the end of the academic year assemblies and class parties on 25th June. We have PTCs on 26th and 27th June. I have had to reinforce this here, right at the beginning of the newsletter, because parents still keep calling and messaging us asking about these dates.
We are one of the few schools running a consistent Academic Support program with afternoon support lessons almost every day. This is a free provision for students with academic challenges in key domains like Math, English and the Sciences. We also offer that support in other academic areas, as required. But a key challenge has been the lack of proper attendance by identified students who most need it. We request you as parents to help the school help your children. By ensuring your wards make use of this opportunity.
Please find the Academic Calendar for the academic year 2025-26. This is also being sent separately as a standalone document on whatsapp and email.
Request - do respect the opening and closing dates , and exam dates. Unless these are adhered to, we cannot attain academic excellence.
Warm regards
Shouquot Hussain
Head of School
The CP1-LS3 course has a 40% weightage for formative assessment and 60% for summative assessment. Attending the summative assessment is crucial for passing the course. Thorough review and practice are necessary, and seeking clarification on unclear concepts or topics can significantly impact student performance.
Active participation and full attendance are encouraged towards preparedness for the final (summative) exam, which is an essential part of the course grade. Students will need to give their final (summative) examinations and meet the criteria for promotion to the next grade level.
You can read the academic standard policy in the Community Hub for more information on this.
Note: You can access all the policies in the Community Hub by clicking the tab ‘Community Hub’ given in every newsletter.
Parent Reminder: Supporting Positive Behavior
As a school we take a proactive and supportive approach to student wellbeing and behavior. In the primary years, we remind parents to regularly speak with their children about safe and respectful play, especially regarding appropriate physical boundaries. Conversations around “good touch” and “bad touch” are vital in helping children understand how to stay safe and speak up if they ever feel uncomfortable.
Additionally, we remind all parents in the secondary section to talk to their children about their behavior both in and outside of school. As students grow in independence, regular conversations at home about respect and responsibility are incredibly valuable.Your support in reinforcing the CREED values we promote at school will help us ensure a safe, focused, and respectful learning environment for all
Learning Support: A Boost for Every Learner
At LOTS, we believe that every student deserves the chance to succeed, and sometimes, that means offering a little extra support along the way.
We’ve identified groups of students at different academic sections and levels who would benefit from attending Learning Support sessions, tailored to help them with their specific learning needs. Attending these sessions are not an admission of weakness, but a proactive step toward confidence, understanding, and growth.
We kindly ask parents to encourage their children who have been selected to attend these sessions regularly. They allow us, as mentors and teachers, to offer more focused and personalized guidance that can make a real difference in a student's academic journey.
Together, let’s give every student the support they need, in order to thrive.
This Week’s Mentoring Focus: Social Media & the Law in Zambia
During this week’s mentoring sessions, our students explored the topic of social media use and the law in Zambia. We discussed how online behavior can have serious consequences, including legal implications under the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act. Students were reminded that sharing explicit content, cyberbullying, or spreading false information is not only harmful—it can also be a criminal offense.
Tips for Parents: Helping Keep Your Child Safe Online
Educate Your Children: Inform them that actions like cyberbullying, sharing explicit content, or spreading false information online are offenses under Zambian law.
Emphasize Accountability: Highlight that online activities are traceable, and inappropriate behavior can lead to legal consequences.
Our Early Years children are really getting adventurous and tech savvy.
Coding Data/Adventures:
They are learning to use technology in a very nurturing manner. They are learning to create simple characters by coding instructions in computers, focusing on sequencing and basic programming concepts.
Vowel Game:
They are learning to improve their language skills in innovative way using interesting games to enhance vocabulary and connection - through activities like Boom, clap and snatch the card.
CP 1B's Class Assembly
The CP 1B class recently hosted an engaging assembly themed "Smile." The students presented various segments, including an English session on articles, where they outlined the use of A, An, and The. A beautiful poem on the importance of smiling was recited, and a French presentation featuring a song with interpretation showcased their language skills. In Global Perspectives, students explored the Zambian flag, discussing the significance of its colours, and concluded with an energetic dance performance titled "Believer." The assembly fittingly ended on a bright note, truly embodying the theme "Smile."
CP 2 Class Science Project
The CP 2 class showcased their group projects on different habitats, researching and presenting on topics such as deserts, grasslands, and more. Through this project, students developed their research, collaboration, and presentation skills, demonstrating their creativity and learning. The projects were a testament to the students' hard work and teamwork.
Effective use of holidays and long breaks for senior students
Academic breaks- holidays are a prime opportunity for rejuvenation, practical learning, and career exploration, all of which significantly bolster college applications. It also provides space to reconnect with personal passions. At LOTS we highly recommend that students pursue any one group below to make the most of the deserved break.
1. Gaining industry experience through internships offers invaluable real-world insights. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, fostering essential professional skills like communication and teamwork. Internships also aid in career exploration and provide networking opportunities, offering a glimpse into potential future paths.
2. Learning practical skills, such as basic repairs, cultivates problem-solving abilities and self-reliance. Engaging in artistic pursuits like music or dance nurtures creativity and provides a healthy outlet for stress. Acquiring any new skill demonstrates discipline and a commitment to personal growth beyond academics.
3. Read whatever you can lay your hands at or what you like, newspapers, books, souvenirs or research on what you wish to know. This will prepare you to communicate well and prepare for English language testing.
These holiday endeavors significantly enhance college applications by showcasing initiative and a proactive approach to learning. Internships provide concrete evidence of practical skills and real-world experience, making applicants stand out. Pursuing diverse skills highlights well-roundedness and a genuine curiosity. These experiences offer compelling narratives for essays and interviews, allowing applicants to demonstrate qualities like resourcefulness and passion through specific examples. In a competitive pool, utilizing holidays for meaningful experiences demonstrates a driven and engaged individual, leaving a lasting impression on admissions committees. By actively seeking growth and learning during breaks, students showcase a commitment to continuous development that resonates strongly with Universities vision.
