“Stress is not what happens to us. It’s our response to what happens. And RESPONSE is something we can choose.”
- Maureen Killoran.
Dear Parents,
The term now is done with the warm up laps, and all students will now be getting very busy. Productively and happily busy - is the intent. Formative assessments, unit completions, ECA skill building, ISAZ sports tournaments. MUNs, TEDx, School Production, Student Council elections and investiture, National Debate League Pan African finals, University Fairs, CREED School of Leadership camps at the CREED School of Leadership, and more.
All of this is exciting and exhilarating, yes. But inversely also challenging and daunting. We are there to help students absorb the pressures. As parents, at your end also please communicate with your children constantly. That really helps them ease up. Resilience is best reinforced through personal anecdotes and examples.
Warm regards
Shouquot Hussain
Head of School
The Checkpoint examination at the end of Cambridge Primary (CP6) and Lower Secondary (LS3) is an important milestone in your child’s learning journey. Cambridge states that these assessments provide an international benchmark of performance, helping schools, parents and learners to identify strengths and areas for improvement as they prepare for the next stage. Please note that participation in the Checkpoint examination is voluntary.
Our internal examinations, which are more holistic and cover all subject areas, will remain the primary basis for assessing student progress and promotion to the next grade. As we prepare for this period, we would like to know your intentions regarding your child’s participation, so that we can make the necessary arrangements. Please fill out the form
As part of building a positive learning environment, we are encouraging all students to use good and appropriate language both in and out of the classroom. The words our children use reflect not only their character but also the values we nurture at home and in school.
We kindly ask for your support in guiding your child to:
· Speak respectfully to teachers, peers, and family members.
· Avoid the use of offensive or hurtful words.
· Practice polite expressions such as “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me.”
· Choose words that build others up rather than bring them down.
Together, we can help our children develop habits of kindness, respect, and responsibility in the way they communicate.
STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS
We would like to encourage you to support the children taking part in school leadership opportunities, such as the Student Council. These roles are more than just titles—they play an important part in shaping your child’s future.
Here’s why school leadership matters:
Builds Confidence – Taking on responsibilities helps students believe in themselves and speak up for what is right.
Teaches Responsibility – Leadership roles show students how to manage tasks, make decisions, and be accountable.
3. Develops Communication Skills – Students learn how to express ideas clearly and listen to others respectfully.
4. Encourages Teamwork – They learn to work with others, solve problems together, and value different opinions.
5. Prepares for the Future – Skills gained through leadership are the same ones needed in careers, community service, and adult life.
Your encouragement now can give your child the confidence to step forward, try new challenges, and grow into a responsible leader of tomorrow.
As we prepare for our upcoming Student Council Elections, we are excited to see many of our students showing interest. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to develop confidence, communication, and teamwork skills. We kindly encourage you to support your child if they are running for a position. Parents can assist by: helping with speeches and guiding campaign posters.
We are thrilled to have hosted our first international University Fair. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect directly with representatives from world-renowned institutions. We were joined by Curtin University, Torrens University, Kaplan Business School and Aditya University.

Love Week Celebration: Honoring Grandparents ❤
Our school recently celebrated "Love Week" with a special focus on grandparents! 👵🏻👴🏻 The children had a blast dressing up as their grandparents, and we taught them about the importance of these special individuals in their lives.
Through fun activities and discussions, the kids learned about the love, wisdom, and experiences that grandparents share with their families. We're grateful for the opportunity to help our students appreciate the significance of grandparents in their lives.
Thank you to our parents and students for making this celebration a success!
First Formative Assessment
We would like to inform you that our first formative assessment for this term will take place next week, from Monday, 22nd September to Friday, 26th September. The assessment timetables have already been shared on the class groups by the respective class teachers. Kindly take note of the dates and ensure your child is well-prepared.
In addition, the curriculum overviews for this term have also been shared to help you follow along with your child’s learning journey and provide the necessary support at home.
We would like to strongly emphasize the importance of regular attendance throughout the assessment week. Learners are encouraged to be present and on time each day, as this will enable them to complete all assessments without unnecessary pressure.
We look forward to a smooth and successful assessment week and sincerely appreciate your continued cooperation in guiding and encouraging our learners.
We had a fantastic time during our recent FC Tournament, which brought together both junior and senior players in a fun and competitive atmosphere. The tournament highlighted not only great gaming skills but also teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship among our students.
In the Senior Division, after several tightly contested matches, Omar Saad rose to the top and was crowned Champion. His consistency, quick thinking, and composure under pressure set him apart from the competition.
In the Junior Division, Kasehela Mukuwa emerged as the Champion, demonstrating excellent skill and determination throughout the matches. His energy and focus made him a standout player in the tournament.
We also want to commend all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment. Every student contributed to the lively spirit of the event, making it enjoyable for both players and spectators.
A special thank you goes out to our parents for supporting their children and encouraging participation in this tournament. Your involvement makes these events meaningful and memorable.

The fourth week of our extracurricular clubs went on very well! We are grateful to all parents who continue to engage with the Office of the Club Coordinator, supporting their children’s participation and growth. Your involvement truly makes a difference.
Clubs remain the centre of learning at Lusaka Oaktree School when it comes to extracurricular activities. They continue to spark creativity, teamwork, and leadership among our students.
A special highlight this week was our Scouts Club, which is actively sparking curiosity and a spirit of adventure in students, teaching important life skills and fostering resilience.
The Creative Arts Club is still on and awaiting responses from parents who wish to support or enroll their children. We look forward to seeing more learners participate and explore their creative talents.
We encourage all learners to continue participating actively and for parents to maintain their supportive role. Together, we are building well-rounded individuals who excel not only academically but also in personal and social development
