“Technology is like fish. The longer it stays on the shelf, the less desirable it becomes” - Andrew Heller
Dear Parents,
Thank you for supporting us in our transition to a paperless process of receiving report cards. And embracing the technology that enables you to access your child’s academic reports, attendance details, curriculum overview and related information from anywhere on earth, at any time. Those of you who attended the Parent Teacher Conferences either came in already logged in, or allowed our IT team to help you log in - to our School Information System ‘ENGAGE SCHOOL”.
Those among you who were unable to attend the PTCs in person, we hope you have followed the instructions as shared and have managed to log in to ENGAGE and have managed to access your children’s semester 1 reports. If you have not, please reach out to william_simfukwe@lusakaoaktree.school (phone 0961985806) or kelvin.mulenga@lusakaoaktree.school (phone 0979607077) and make sure become a part of this inevitable world.
Former IBM CEO Ginni Rommetty famously said “Growth and comfort do not coexist”. That is true. Growth necessitates change and change is initially uncomfortable - but ultimately very rewarding. Current Apple CEO Tim Cook pragmatises the context further with these words - “You can focus on things that are barriers or you can focus on scaling the wall and redefining the problem”. So let us all get there together. We will save two extremely important resources - time and trees,
We celebrated the last day of semester 1 in EYD and CP by awarding certificates to those students in every classroom who best exhibited the school’s five core values. In CP and Secondary we awarded certificates to all those students who participated in the inter house debate competition, and to those who won best and second best speakers. In Secondary we awarded certificates to all those bravehearts who were presenters in our pioneering TEDx event.
In addition to World Scholar’s Cup and TEDx and Debate and Leadership and Writing and Sports scholarships, we are now actively launching the following at
LOTS - Model United Nations (MUN), Duke of Edinburgh Award Program (DoE), Math and Science Olympiads, the School Choir and the School Band. More details on each of these can be found later in this newsletter.
I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of team LOTS, to thank all parents and all students for a very eventful, challenging and rewarding semester one. Here is wishing all of you, and all of us, as growth inducing a semester two.
Here’s wishing you Merry Christmas and a happy 2025 in advance.
Warm regards,
Shouquot Hussain
Head of School

Pastoral care lies at the heart of our school and is embedded in everything we do. During the term we cared about the mental health and wellbeing of our students. All this is done to have a happy student at Lusaka Oaktree School (LOTS). The students were engaged academically, socially, and emotionally, which is reflected in their overall well-being, positive interactions with peers and teachers, and their ability to embrace both challenges and achievements.
As a way of ensuring that our student’s well-being is good, the following was done:
a. Introducing a morning mentorship program
b. Dividing students in small groups of 5 to 10
c. Assigning a mentor to each group
d. Providing all mentors with content to use
e. Giving students a survey to give feedback on well-being
f. Engaging students through one on one conversations to get feedback from them.
g. Ensured that teachers report for class on time and follow the timetable when teaching
h. Encouraged both students and teachers to use a good tone when talking to each other
STUDENT BEHAVIOUR
We are proud to inform you that this term has ended without any student being expelled. This is a clear indication that we are working together to improve the behaviour of our children. We still experienced some minor incidents which led to students being suspended to go and reflect. The students signed behavioural contracts upon return in which they have promised to exhibit good behaviour.

The final Secondary Assembly of Semester 1 was a celebration of achievements, reflection, and inspiration. Addresses from the Principal of Academics and the Principal of Pastoral Care highlighted the importance of perseverance, discipline, and empathy. The Head of School celebrated the learners' enthusiastic participation in a variety of activities, applauding their remarkable efforts and commending both students and teachers for their unwavering commitment to making the term a resounding success
The assembly honored the achievements of our TEDx speakers and presenter, who inspired audiences with their innovative ideas and storytelling. Participants in the inter-house debate competition were also recognized for their exceptional critical thinking and teamwork, showcasing the spirit of healthy competition.
As we look ahead to Semester 2, the assembly left everyone inspired and motivated to continue striving for excellence. It was a fitting end to a semester filled with growth, creativity, and collective success. Here's to even greater accomplishments in the coming months!
The End of Semester One Assembly was a vibrant celebration of the primary school students' achievements, showcasing their hard work and dedication. The students were abuzz with excitement as they gathered for the End of Semester Assembly. The event was a grand celebration of their achievements and a testament to their hard work and dedication.
The event kicked off with a spirited rendition of the national anthem, led by the enthusiastic CP2B students.
The highlight of the assembly was the presentation of certificates to deserving students in various categories, recognizing their outstanding efforts and achievements. The awardees included:
All CP6 students who participated in the Leadership camp program at the CREED School of Leadership - demonstrating exceptional teamwork and perseverance.
Students from each class who embodied the school's core values of CREED (Creativity, Respect, Empathy, Discipline, and Excellence), showcasing outstanding behavior and commitment to upholding the school's values.
Winners and participants in the inter-house debate contest, recognized for their impressive public speaking skills, critical thinking, and teamwork.
We are incredibly proud of all our students and look forward to witnessing their continued growth and success in the second semester.
The semester culminated in a grand assembly, where students were awarded certificates recognizing their exemplary adherence to the core values of the school - CREED:
- Excellence
- Discipline
- Empathy
- Creativity
- Respect
The ceremony was followed by class parties, complete with delicious treats and lively dancing. It was a joyous celebration of our students' achievements
The last day of school for students, Wednesday the 4th of December, was full of festivities. Besides wearing colourful clothes and celebrating the semester with award filled assemblies, there were of course the Class Parties!
In every classroom, students brought a variety of snacks from home and shared these with their classmates and teachers. And enjoyed themselves by participating in some curated fun activities. Well, it is said a picture speaks a thousand words - so we will let these pictures speak!
On the 5th and 6th of December (Thursday and Friday), we hosted a successful Parent-Teacher Conference (PTC) where teachers and parents came together to discuss student progress. We were delighted to see parents engage with the “Engage” app and learn how to access the reports online and also stay updated on the latest attendance and curriculum and related information.
It was wonderful to see our community working together to support our students' growth and success!
From Early Years through Primary to Lower Secondary and Upper Secondary - teachers shared semester 1 reports and engaged with parents and accompanying children (it was nice to see more students accompanying their parents this time) in discussing successes and challenges and the roadmaps to address those challenges, academic and pastoral. Here are some glimpses of these fruitful interactions.
The counseling team at LOTS spent this week on highlighting the importance of summer program. The IGCSE students were encouraged to apply to Yale Summer Program which is completely funded only for the students from this region. The Application to Universities especially in NZ are getting streamlined. Early application by A level students of LOTS by January will see them getting good Scholarships.
The counselling team wishes to apprise the parents that documentation is a very important aspect of study Abroad Dream. Kindly prepare yourself to understand that any school that your child has studied in is bound to give you hard copies of transcript / results/ statement of marks. You have to INSIST on getting one at the end of the academic year. The same should be signed by the Head of the school/ Principal and a school seal has to embossed against the signatures. This is called the Original Transcript. Rest all formats are not valid. Such official Transcript has to be saved by the Parents from grade 1(primary) to A levels.
The team at LOTS is committed to guiding the students and the parents free of cost 24*7. We will be glad to answer to your queries. Kindly reach out to us at careercounseling@lusakaoaktree.school.
For the year 2025, we will be putting out lot of contact forums, interface with experts from UK, NZ and Australia and scholarship tips for parents and students. Kindly attend and enjoy the process.
Get your ‘Engage’ login activated, if you have not already done so.
Update your contact details using the tab on this newsletter, if they have changed.
6th January is when school resumes, so please ensure attendance of your ward from day 1, because absence will affect learning and put pressure on the child, and also because the minimum attendance statute needs to be met.
IGCSE 2 and A level students have special classes from 9th to 20th December - parents of these classes please ensure attendance, because this may define how their future shapes up.
