Term 2 | Week 9
Praise your child explicitly for how capable they are of learning, rather than telling them how smart they are.
- Carol S Dweck (Growth Mindset)
Dear parents,
Please ask your children this question once every 6 months - “When was the last time you did something for the first time?”
This will make them try new things, and keep them constantly focused on acquiring new skills and experiences that help them grow. Being intentional can be as much fun as being spontaneous, when you see the results. And you will see a lot of it on display on 15th March - LOTS DAY.
For LOTS DAY (Yes I know, that's the big conversation these days), please bring/send food specific to your culture that day, if you can. And have your children come dressed in their cultural attire. Variety, colour, cultural diversity and inclusion - these are the dominant themes for that day. We want to celebrate all those beautiful differences that in unison gives LOTS its beating heart.
As always at LOTS, there is a lot happening, and the rest of this newsletter will encapsulate all of that - to help you keep track, and to help you help your children consciously be a part. Please read on.
Warm regards,
Shouquot Hussain
Head of School

We are delighted to announce the official launch of the Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Awards program at Lusaka Oaktree School. This esteemed initiative, renowned worldwide for its commitment to youth development and personal growth, will now be an integral part of our extracurricular offerings.
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards program empowers young individuals to challenge themselves, step out of their comfort zones, and develop valuable skills for life and work. Through a series of progressive levels, participants engage in activities across
four key areas: volunteering, physical fitness, skills development, and adventurous journeys.
There are 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold. The acquisition of each will be facilitated by the team of trained and certified DoE instructors of LOTS. The certifications received upon completing each level are recognised and valued across the world in all universities, and hence becomes a powerful addition to a student’s portfolio and college application process.
How to register:
Registration will open on the 11th of March 2024 and close on 18th March 2024. Please note that we have limited spaces available and this will be given on first come first serve basis.

We are thrilled to inform you about the upcoming ISAZ event scheduled for March 23rd, 2024, and our participation in it. Our Football and Netball teams are prepping hard to make their presence count!
This day promises to be an enriching experience for our students as they will be participating in three events - U11 boys and girls football, U 16 football, and U 16 netball.
We encourage all parents to mark their calendars and join us in supporting our students as they participate in various events throughout this day.
We are back again on the fields and the courts and the pool happily with after school activities. All clubs/ECAs have taken off with all the vigor and zest that our young acorns are known for.
We are happy to see activities resume well.
But there are a few challenges we need to address because of the increased numbers - particularly in the arena of sports - and hence will affect a few changes and adjustments in the schedule next week - in order to deliver the best.
We earnestly request all parents to encourage their children to actively participate in these activities - because they are as much a part of education as their academic pursuits. These help develop invaluable life skills that enable students to handle the vicissitudes and challenges of later life much better.
We're thrilled to invite you to our annual LOTS Founders and Culture Day, on Friday 15th March - 9.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs!
It's been exhilarating to witness our students dive into preparations across a spectrum of activities. From the captivating Book Fair to the innovative Entrepreneurship Fair, from the vibrant Art Exhibition to the dazzling Fashion Parade, and not forgetting the engaging Science & Math Exhibition, there's something for everyone.
We're especially delighted to see our students embracing cultural diversity through the performance of dances, and songs from various countries. The energy within the LOTS community is contagious, and anticipation for the event is palpable. And those giving speeches have assured us that they will be entertaining as well!
We're also incredibly touched by the overwhelming response from parents who have pledged to showcase their talents before our students. Your enthusiasm adds another layer of excitement to what promises to be a remarkable day.(We also look forward to the variety of cuisines you are going to enthrall us with, on that day!)
So, mark your calendars and save the date! Let's come together to celebrate the spirit of LOTS at the Founders and Culture Day. We can't wait to share this unforgettable experience with you.
This is exclusively for our IGCSE, AS and A Level students. Representatives from 7 universities will come and interact with our students, giving them a detailed overview of benefits, processes and of course the courses on offer. Thereafter it will mostly be Q& A.
Here are a few suggestions for supporting your child at home in different areas:
Reading aloud with the child everyday for even 10-15 minutes.
Drilling times table orally regularly.
Practicing number facts to 20 orally, like what makes 5, what are the different ways of making 10 etc.
Sitting quietly for 5-10 mins in a quiet environment will help your child to feel calmer and also it help in focusing. Practicing mindful breathing along with it will be more beneficial. Aroma, flowers etc can be added to the space and the space can be lightly lit for a calming effect
Our IGCSE 2 and AS/A Level students will be done with their mock examinations on Monday 11th March. From thereon the students will now attend normal lessons focussed on final examinations preparation. To this effect the students in examination classes will not take part in ECAs, as they will continue with extra support lessons in the afternoon..
We would like to thank you dearly for a great improvement in school uniforms by the students. This is all because of your support. May we continue ensuring that the students leave home in proper school uniforms.
Our afternoon activities started as stated in edition of our newsletter. The response from the students towards the activities was overwhelming.
Kindly be informed that our class support lessons will continue for all the new students. The lessons will last for 40 minutes to allow the students to take part in the ECA in the last 40 minutes.
Monday, 11th March, is a normal school day. Tuesday 12th, March is a holiday as our young ones will be celebrating Youth Day.
