Introduction
The Minutemen defended the first states(Or colonies), against the British. The King of great Britain said that they still had to follow Britain's laws and rules. The colonists protested against it, and a group of farmers got together and became the minutemen. Apparently they were ready to fight at a moments notice. Eventually a war started, and it is now known as The Revolutionary War. The Colonists won their freedom after they won the fight. After that, the colonies declared they were a country.
Fast Facts
The most recent fight was the battle(or siege) of Yorktown. In this battle the French and the Minutemen worked together against the British. The battle of Yorktown was the last battle of the revolutionary war. Everybody in that time probably had a big sigh of relief. Shortly after, George Washington became the President of the U.S. Some time before that there was the battle of Lexington, Massachusetts. This was the battle that supposedly started the revolutionary war.
At the Beginning of the war there were about 80,000 Minutemen, and about 86,000 red coats(British.) At the end of the war about 25,000 Minutemen were dead, and about 8,000 red coats also died in the war. It you compare the amount of soldiers that died for each side, you can really see the Minutemen struggled against the Minutemen
As said in the introduction, the Minutemen were colonist that defended the colonists from the British. some people also call them a Militia. some Minutemen had very important roles. like Paul Revere. He had a job to tell the colonists if the British were coming by land or by sea. one lights by land, two by sea. They also fought threats that the British were making to the colonists.
The Minutemen normally fought the British, but there are some other groups of people they fought. some French reinforcements helped the British in the revolutionary war. They also fought some Indian and some more French during the French and Indian war. They were three groups of men, fighting for property and their lives.
The biggest problem that the Minutemen faced was the British, but the Minutemen had other problems. A big problem back then was diseases. They didn't have flu shots back then, so there was no way to stop or cure diseases. Another big problem was that most soldiers were wounded, so it would take lots of care to get them better again.
From all of this information, you can see that the Minutemen were very brave and straight-forward people. If they had not worked hard enough to stop the British, then the U.S. would be part of Great Britain!
