Bison have roamed the the plains of North America since 1500. They used to live all the way from Alaska to Northern Mexico but today there they can only be found in western North America. There habitat is limited because of habitat destruction the American Bison territory is slowly disappearing. Yellowstone national park has the largest population of wild plain bison about 4000 roam around. Wood Buffalo National park has the largest population Wild Wood bison about 10000. American Bison have historically occurred throughout the grasslands and open Savannas of North America but they will need us to help save their habitat and range.

The American Bison is a very big animal. The length of a bison can range from 3.6m to 3.8m in males or 2.13m to 3.18m in females. There height at the shoulder is 1.67m to 1.86m for males and 1.52m to 1.57m for female. Bison have a distinctive shoulder hump and a huge head. They have brown hair that is longer in the front then the back. Bison have black horns that curve upward with a sharp tip, and their hooves are black in a circular shape. The American Bison eats mainly grasses and sedges. The American Bison is a great animal.

Bison are amazing animals. These big animals are split into groups. The cow groups are made up of females and males under the age of three, but a male bison also has the choose of living individually. When bison travel they foam a line. Bison are able to adapt to all sorts of weather in the winter, if there is snow they will use their heads to reach the food under the snow. Bison are good swimmers and runners. They are great animals.
