Childhood
Not much is known about Thoreau's childhood. But we do know that he had 2 older siblings, Helen and John jr and 1 younger sibling, Sophie. He was grave and quiet as a child and his friends called him “ Judge”. He was always smart but always a little sad. Maybe we'll never know why……..
Walden pond
When Thoreau moved to the beautiful Walden pond in Concord, Massachusetts, it was to live deliberately. He wanted to live a solitary, simple life by himself. He ate simple food and spent most of his time was spent writing his poetry book. His poetry book, " Walden" or " life in the woods".

The legacy of Thoreau
Thoreau gave up being a poet in his later life. He died on May 6, 1862, of tuberculosis. He got a bad cold while counting tree rings in the December of 1860. He was only 44.
