I understand that students want to have their own space, environment, and privacy when working on school tasks. They might want to use this time to do their schoolwork independently with no distractions or anyone watching them. However, what if a student sees their phone in the room they’re in and starts scrolling through social media apps, causing work to be forgotten? Since it can be easy for students to lose track of the school work they need to accomplish, students should be fine with parents checking in on them during school hours.
Many would argue that students need to learn how to be independent as middle school students are old enough to focus on tasks. Parents shouldn’t have to watch their children so closely as they should learn how to be responsible and manage their time wisely. Although students should be independent, parents should still watch their children by simply sometimes sharing the same work area, or room with them while doing their tasks.
Middle school students easily become distracted. This sometimes causes them to not finish their assignments or tasks given by the teacher. In a physical classroom, teachers do not only teach students but also make sure they are paying attention and are understanding what is being taught. Unfortunately, distance learning makes these tasks difficult for teachers as all they see are their students’ faces on their screens. Parents who can see what their children are doing can help both teachers and students.
A parent being in the same room as the study room or area being used by a student, can be beneficial. Parents can be very helpful as they can help organize a student's desk since many students don’t like keeping their own workspace neat and organized. Another helpful thing they can do is to sometimes assist with homework and other assignments. Sometimes, teachers aren’t available or you thought you knew how to do the work assigned but you don’t! Your parents can often help.
Students should be watched by their parents during school hours. Being independent with many gadgets and temptations can be a disadvantage. Productivity usually also increases when a parent is nearby and both, child and parent simply accomplish tasks in the same room. And It's also nice to have someone to talk to!
