All students have homework but some may say that too much homework can stress them out. However, if students didn't have enough work to do they wouldn't develop a full understanding of the subject and will then be confused in class. As a result, they won't achieve good grades and this will lead to even more stress. Homework helps students think deeper about the material. Although students may not like it, homework does help you learn.
Studies show that homework not only improves grades and test results but also increases the probability of going to college. Research published in the High School Journal indicates that students who spent between 31 and 90 minutes each day on homework "scored about 40 points higher on the SAT-Mathematics subtest than their peers, who reported spending no time on homework each day, on average." This shows how the likelihood of being academically successful is affected by homework.
Most of the time homework is review of what is learned in class. This might seem unnecessary but in reality this helps develop your memory and knowledge of the topic moving it to your long term memory. Repetition works well because it helps your brain solidify connections that are used to recall memories. When you learn something new, your brain instantly attempts to associate it with something that you already know through a process of assimilation.” This process is the brain's way of making connections between new and old ideas.
In addition to that, homework also teaches kids how to manage their time. This is useful because time management is a helpful skill to have later on in life. It's been proven that if a student develops good time management skills earlier on in life they are more likely to stick with them all throughout their life. Homework also teaches students not to procrastinate. Just like time management, if a student learns not to procrastinate at a young age it will benefit them more and more as they grow up.
At the time kids may see homework as unnecessary but in the long run homework helps students learn in a variety of ways both currently and in the future. There have been countless studies that prove why homework does indeed help you learn. Although others may say homework is a waste of time, homework helps students build some of the fundamental skills in life and develop a deeper understanding on the subject.

Although Homework is said to be helpful and help students gain a deeper understanding of a topic they are learning about in class, several researchers have found an overwhelming amount of homework does not help. This is why homework is not benefiting students learning.
Homework takes up a majority of a student’s free time. It is necessary for students to do other things like sports, spend time with their friends, and try new things. It is important to try new things, since it helps develop new skills that they need for their future.
Some very important skills they need can only be developed outside of school work that's why it is important for them to have free time. Some of these skills include communication, empathy, and social skills. If students do not develop these skills at an early age it will become more challenging to deal with new situations in their future.
Another reason why homework is not helpful is because if students are assigned multiple assignments, they will have to divide their limited time in order to get to each task. This means they won’t be able to devote enough time to one task to fully understand what they were supposed to take away from the exercise.
Students also have limited free time outside of school which they have to find the perfect balance for in order to have a balanced lifestyle. Their free time needs to include some exercise, socializing time, sleep, and schoolwork, but what often happens is that they are not able to create a healthy balance between all. That usually means that the amount of sleep students are getting is shortened due to the student needing more time to complete their work. Being sleep deprived has been proven to damage people's ability to remember and learn new information.
Students do not complete their work on time in order to do other necessary things. This may cause extreme levels of stress and anxiety as they are behind on work. This will overwhelm them which increases the amount of stress even more. It has been proven that working while being stressed can make them less productive and the overall performance will be worse.
Homework is not beneficial due to its effect on their free time, increasing stress levels, sleep depravity and more. This is why homework is NOT helpful and it would be much better if a student's work could all be completed at school as it will resolve all of the problems caused by having homework.
